And what a chase it was. Opener Graeme Smith (90 off 55) gave perfect impetus to the South African chase helping the eventual hero Herschelle Gibbs who scored a career-best 175 off 111 balls to bring the chase down to where Mark Boucher (50 off 43) could finish it with the help of the tail.

Australian bowlers had no idea what hit them once Gibbs and Smith went after them, throwing caution to the wind. Mick Lewis went for 113 runs off his 10 overs, which is an ODI record.
