As mentioned in entry no.9, India batted first and scored 414 runs with Virender Sehwag (146), Sachin Tendulkar (69) and MS Dhoni (72 off 53) powered India to 414 runs.

Sri Lanka gave India a tough chase but eventually fell short by 3 runs.

Australia broke the highest score record in World Cup history when they made 417/6 against Afghanistan in Perth. Previous record was held by India who scored 413/5 against Bermuda in 2007 World Cup. David Warner was the star of the show with his 178 (133 balls 19 fours 5 sixes) and his 260 run second wicket partnership with Steven Smith (95). Glen Maxwell (88 off 39 balls 7&#215;6) gave the impetus to the innings in the final overs.

Another Indian run fest, which is primarily remembered for Virender Sehwag’s 219 runs scored in just 149 balls. This was only the second double-century in the ODI format. India made a mammoth 418-5, their highest ODI score, with contributions from Gautam Gambhir (67) and Suresh Raina (55).

The West Indian batting line up could not keep up with the required run rate and folded up for 265 runs. Dinesh Ramdin top scored with 96 runs.

The openers Loots Bosman (88) and Alviro Petersen (80) had given South Africa a great start with a 160 run stand and then Mark Boucher just came in and piled up the runs at an astonishing rate. He reached his 100 off just 44 balls and made a total of 147 unbeaten runs off just 68 balls with 10 sixes.

Zimbabwe tried to chase the total with help of Terry Duffin (88) and Hamilton Masakadza (54), but ended up making 247 runs for the fall of 4 wickets and lost the match by 171 runs.

The Australian score of 434-6 was the first score of 400 in ODI history. Little did they know that this match would go on to become the best ODI in cricket folklore. Captain Ricky Ponting top scored with a brilliant 164 runs and was helped by Mike Hussey (81 off 51 balls) and Simon Katich (79 off 90 balls) to take Australia to a humongous total.

South Africa’s every frontline bowler went for 80+ runs in their 10 overs with Kallis going for 76 runs off his 6 overs. But the chase was yet to come.

And what a chase it was. Opener Graeme Smith (90 off 55) gave perfect impetus to the South African chase helping the eventual hero Herschelle Gibbs who scored a career-best 175 off 111 balls to bring the chase down to where Mark Boucher (50 off 43) could finish it with the help of the tail.

Australian bowlers had no idea what hit them once Gibbs and Smith went after them, throwing caution to the wind. Mick Lewis went for 113 runs off his 10 overs, which is an ODI record.

This was the all important match of the India v South Africa Gandhi Mandela ODI series. The 5th match was to be the series decider and as soon as AB de Villiers won the toss he had little hesitation in deciding he wanted to bat first. Opener Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and skipper AB de Villiers all struck brilliant hundreds scoring 109, 133 and 119 runs respectively. All the Indian bowlers looked helpless and put up their worst show in the finals. South Africa maintained a run rate of 8.76 in their innings and at the end of 50 overs had 438 runs in their account for the loss of 4 wickets. One of the most destructive batting performances we have seen since the new ODI rules have come into play.

What is now called the AB de Villiers’ match; South Africa batted first and scored their ODI best of 439 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets. Openers Rilee Rossouw (128) and Hashim Amla (153 not out) gave South Africa the perfect start with a 247 partnership. But then AB de Villiers walked in and he changed the game with the fastest ever century in ODI off just 31 balls. De Villiers also equalled the most sixes (16) record. South Africa scored an astonishing 193 runs in the last 11 overs with Amla playing just 33 of those balls. Sri Lanka toured Netherlands in 2006 and stamped their authority in the first match itself. Batting first, Sri Lanka scored their highest ever total of 443 runs for loss of 9 wickets.

Sanath Jayasuriya top scored with 157 runs off 104 balls with 24 fours and 1 six. Tillakaratne Dilshan also scored an unbeaten 117 runs. The Dutch tried their best to chase the massive target, eventually ended up on 248 runs all out. Netherland medium pacer Peter Borren went for 94 runs off his 10 overs and took 1 wicket. Sri Lanka won by 198 runs.

In the England v Pakistan 3rd ODI the English skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bat first. They got off to a flying start but Jason Roy got out in the 6th over with 33 on the board. When Hasan Ali had his man caught by Sarfaraz he wouldn’t have sensed what was coming their way.

What followed was Halestorm. The other England opener Alex Hales went absolutely berserk and thumped the Pakistani bowlers all around Trent Bridge. He got to his fifty, subsequently the hundred and almost looked unstoppable on his way to 171 from 122 balls with 22 boundaries and 4 sixes.

Joe Root and Jos Buttler both scored fifties. But Root was dismissed for 85 while Buttler was unbeaten on 90. He was supported well by skipper Morgan who was not out on 57 at the end of the innings from 27 balls. The exciting stroke play from the English batters saw them post 44 runs in their 50 overs for the loss of just 3 wickets. They scored their runs with a run rate of 8.88. This is now the highest score in ODI cricket as England went past Sri Lanka’s 443/9 vs Netherlands.

<p>In the England v Pakistan 3rd ODI the English skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bat first. They got off to a flying start but Jason Roy got out in the 6th over with 33 on the board. When Hasan Ali had his man caught by Sarfaraz he wouldn’t have sensed what was coming their way.</p>
<p>What followed was Halestorm. The other England opener Alex Hales went absolutely berserk and thumped the Pakistani bowlers all around Trent Bridge. He got to his fifty, subsequently the hundred and almost looked unstoppable on his way to 171 from 122 balls with 22 boundaries and 4 sixes.</p>
<p>Joe Root and Jos Buttler both scored fifties. But Root was dismissed for 85 while Buttler was unbeaten on 90. He was supported well by skipper Morgan who was not out on 57 at the end of the innings from 27 balls. The exciting stroke play from the English batters saw them post 44 runs in their 50 overs for the loss of just 3 wickets. They scored their runs with a run rate of 8.88. This is now the highest score in ODI cricket as England went past Sri Lanka’s 443/9 vs Netherlands.</p>

<p>As mentioned in entry no.9, India batted first and scored 414 runs with Virender Sehwag (146), Sachin Tendulkar (69) and MS Dhoni (72 off 53) powered India to 414 runs.</p>
<p>Sri Lanka gave India a tough chase but eventually fell short by 3 runs.</p>

<p>Australia broke the highest score record in World Cup history when they made 417/6 against Afghanistan in Perth. Previous record was held by India who scored 413/5 against Bermuda in 2007 World Cup. David Warner was the star of the show with his 178 (133 balls 19 fours 5 sixes) and his 260 run second wicket partnership with Steven Smith (95). Glen Maxwell (88 off 39 balls 7&#215;6) gave the impetus to the innings in the final overs.</p>

<p>Another Indian run fest, which is primarily remembered for Virender Sehwag’s 219 runs scored in just 149 balls. This was only the second double-century in the ODI format. India made a mammoth 418-5, their highest ODI score, with contributions from Gautam Gambhir (67) and Suresh Raina (55).</p>
<p>The West Indian batting line up could not keep up with the required run rate and folded up for 265 runs. Dinesh Ramdin top scored with 96 runs.</p>

<p>This was the second time South Africa crossed the 400 run mark in 2006 with 418 runs for 5 wickets against Zimbabwe. The openers Loots Bosman (88) and Alviro Petersen (80) had given South Africa a great start with a 160 run stand and then Mark Boucher just came in and piled up the runs at an astonishing rate. He reached his 100 off just 44 balls and made a total of 147 unbeaten runs off just 68 balls with 10 sixes.</p>
<p>Zimbabwe tried to chase the total with help of Terry Duffin (88) and Hamilton Masakadza (54), but ended up making 247 runs for the fall of 4 wickets and lost the match by 171 runs.</p>

<p>The Australian score of 434-6 was the first score of 400 in ODI history. Little did they know that this match would go on to become the best ODI in cricket folklore. Captain Ricky Ponting top scored with a brilliant 164 runs and was helped by Mike Hussey (81 off 51 balls) and Simon Katich (79 off 90 balls) to take Australia to a humongous total.</p>
<p>South Africa’s every frontline bowler went for 80+ runs in their 10 overs with Kallis going for 76 runs off his 6 overs. But the chase was yet to come.</p>

<p>And what a chase it was. Opener Graeme Smith (90 off 55) gave perfect impetus to the South African chase helping the eventual hero Herschelle Gibbs who scored a career-best 175 off 111 balls to bring the chase down to where Mark Boucher (50 off 43) could finish it with the help of the tail.</p>
<p>Australian bowlers had no idea what hit them once Gibbs and Smith went after them, throwing caution to the wind. Mick Lewis went for 113 runs off his 10 overs, which is an ODI record.</p>

<p>This was the all important match of the India v South Africa Gandhi Mandela ODI series. The 5th match was to be the series decider and as soon as AB de Villiers won the toss he had little hesitation in deciding he wanted to bat first. Opener Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and skipper AB de Villiers all struck brilliant hundreds scoring 109, 133 and 119 runs respectively. All the Indian bowlers looked helpless and put up their worst show in the finals. South Africa maintained a run rate of 8.76 in their innings and at the end of 50 overs had 438 runs in their account for the loss of 4 wickets. One of the most destructive batting performances we have seen since the new ODI rules have come into play.</p>

<p>What is now called the AB de Villiers’ match; South Africa batted first and scored their ODI best of 439 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets. Openers Rilee Rossouw (128) and Hashim Amla (153 not out) gave South Africa the perfect start with a 247 partnership. But then AB de Villiers walked in and he changed the game with the fastest ever century in ODI off just 31 balls. De Villiers also equalled the most sixes (16) record. South Africa scored an astonishing 193 runs in the last 11 overs with Amla playing just 33 of those balls. <p>West Indies were never in chase and crawled to 291 for 7 at the end of their quota of 50 overs. South Africa won the match by 148 runs.</p>

<p>Sanath Jayasuriya top scored with 157 runs off 104 balls with 24 fours and 1 six. Tillakaratne Dilshan also scored an unbeaten 117 runs. The Dutch tried their best to chase the massive target, eventually ended up on 248 runs all out. Netherland medium pacer Peter Borren went for 94 runs off his 10 overs and took 1 wicket. Sri Lanka won by 198 runs.</p>
