Australia faced Sri Lanka in a crunch Group A game at Sydney Cricket Ground. Australia batted first after winning the toss and started towards a big total. Steven Smith (72), Michael Clarke (68), Shane Watson (67) and the second fastest hundred in World Cup from Glen Maxwell (102) took Australia to 376/9 in 50 overs. Sri Lanka tried valiantly to chase the total with Kumar Sangakkara scoring 104, Tillakaratne Dilshan scoring 62 and Dinesh Chandimal making 50 but well short by 64 runs, bowling out for 312/9.

South Africa could only make 294 runs in return, thanks to 92 from AB de Villiers and 74 from Captain Graeme Smith. Australia won the encounter by 83 runs.

The match was played in Wellington and Martin Guptill hit New Zealand’s highest score of 237* which included 24 fours and 11 sixes in 163 deliveries faced. This is now the highest individual score in World Cup history. This is New Zealand&#8217;s highest score in World Cups.

West Indian Captain Jason holder became the first bowler from the Caribbean to go for 100 runs in their 10 overs. De Villiers hit him for 64 runs in his last 2 overs. West Indies made just 151 runs to lose by a record margin of 257 runs.

Australia broke India’s record for the highest score in the World Cup by making 417/6 against Afghanistan at Perth. David Warner hit 178 and Steven Smith hit 95 with Glen Maxwell wreaking havoc in the end overs by making 88 off 39 balls. 4 of the Afghan bowlers went for more than 70 runs in their 10 overs and 2 of them went for 80 runs. Dawlat Zadran was the unlucky one to go for 101 runs in his 10 overs.
