<p>Guess what, Sri Lanka does possess an uncanny habit of scoring gigantic totals. They appear for the third time in this list. This time it was against South Africa at the Sinhalese sports club ground, Colombo. In reply to the minnow total of 169 runs, Sri Lanka almost devoured the opposition by the gigantic total. It was in this innings that the highest partnership of 624 runs was made between Sangakkara and Jayawardene. Jayawardene scored 374 runs. Sri Lanka won the test by an innings and 153 runs.</p>
<h4><strong>7 &#8211; Australia, 758/8 v</strong> <strong>West Indies:</strong></h4>

<p>It was the fifth test between West Indies and Australia at Jamaica back in 1955. In their first innings, West Indies managed to score a total of 357 runs. In reply, the Australians scored a mammoth total of 758 runs. Neil Harvey hit a brilliant double century in the match. He top scored the Australian innings with 204 runs. The Aussies won the test by an innings and 82 runs.</p>
<h4><strong>6 &#8211; Sri Lanka, 760/7 v</strong> <strong>India:</strong></h4>

<p>The Sri Lankan team once again comes into the list and the opposition is same in this case as well. It was the test in 2009 at Ahmedabad. In reply to India’s total of 426 runs, Sri Lanka made a firm reply by scoring 758 runs on the board. Mahela Jayawardene topped the chart for Sri Lanka with his innings of 275. The test match ended in a draw.</p>
<h4><strong>5 &#8211; Pakistan, 765/6 v Sri Lanka:</strong></h4>

<p>It was the first test at Karachi between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 2009. In reply to the gigantic total of Sri Lanka of 644 runs, Pakistan posted an even stronger total to counter the Sri Lankan innings. Younis Khan anchored the innings for them with a sensational triple century. He scored 313 runs while Kamran Akmal scored an unbeaten 158 runs to take Pakistan to such a mammoth score. The test was drawn.</p>
<h4><strong>4 &#8211; West Indies, 790/3 v</strong> <strong>Pakistan:</strong></h4>

<p>The match was played in 1958 between West Indies and Pakistan in 1958 at Jamaica. Bundling the entire Pakistan line-up for a total of 328 runs, the Caribbean men declared their innings at the score of 790 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets. Sir Gary Sobers top scored for the West Indians with 365 runs. West Indies won the match by an innings and 174 runs.</p>
<h4><strong>3 &#8211; England, 849 v</strong> <strong>West Indies:</strong></h4>

<p>This test was played in 1926 at Jamaica and test matches those days went on endlessly until a result was reached. England, in their first innings scored the total of 849 runs, courtesy of a fantastic knock of 325 runs from Andy Sandham. The match went on for eight days after which both teams had an agreement to declare the match as a draw.</p>
<h4><strong>2 &#8211; England, 903/7 v Australia:</strong></h4>

<p>In the early days of Cricket, England set up this gigantic score in the 5<sup>th</sup> Test of the Ashes in 1930. Right in the first innings of the test, England managed to score such a huge innings, courtesy of a fantastic triple century from Sir Leonard Hutton, the English opening batsman who scored 364 runs in the innings. They won the test by an innings and 579 runs.</p>

<p>Well some might ask, why not 1000? The fact is that there were no more overs left in the test and Sri Lanka had to declare their innings at this score in the first test between Sri Lanka and India at Colombo in 1997. India scored a total of 537 runs for the loss of eight wickets after opting to bat first and they declared their innings at the score. Sri Lanka, in their reply made such a scintillating score in 271 overs, courtesy of a record breaking partnership between Jayasuriya and Rohan Mahanama. Jayasuriya top scored the Sri Lankan innings with 340 runs.</p>
