The first-ever international match at this venue took place in the year 1983 between India and the West Indies. The ground has hosted 12 Tests, 23 ODIs, and 1 T20I thus far.

The highest total in Test cricket on this ground is 760/7 by Sri Lanka against India in the year 2009. The highest individual score in Tests in this ground also came in the same game when Mahela Jayawardene scored a splendid 275 against the hosts.

The highest team total in ODI cricket is 365/2 by South Africa against India in the year 2010. The highest individual score in ODI cricket on this ground is by Sourav Ganguly in the year 2000. The left-hander scored as sedate 152-ball 144 to help India beat Zimbabwe by 61 runs.
