The format of T20Is has drastically changed the way international cricketers used to pursue their beloved game as there’s now plenty to choose from three different formats. While it gets utterly difficult to transition from the shortest format to the longest format or vice versa for most players, some greatest entities of the game have been bossing and prospering irrespective of what international cricket offers to them.
At present, there’s a very limited number of cricketers from each nation who play all formats of the game and thus can be called the eminent flag bearers of the sport at the global level. Perhaps, most of them are also once-in-a-generation players for their respective teams eventually getting relished for their supreme gamesmanship.
Here’s a list of the top 10 most valuable cricketers across all formats currently:
10. Shaheen Afridi
At the age of 21, Shaheen Afridi is not only Pakistan’s brimming multi-format bowler but also the team’s overall premier pacer as well. His left-arm pace bowling is a continuance from Pakistan’s eternal factory of left-arm pacers eventually making his role reminiscent of what the likes of Wasim Akram and Mohammad Amir had done for their teams.
By beginning his international career from the shortest format, Shaheen has at present played 17 Tests, 25 ODIs, and 25 T20Is. Specifically, in the white-ball format, Shaheen’s value becomes much grand as he is, undoubtedly, the best ace bowler amongst the current crop of Pakistani pacers.
By naturally being well equipped with height, pace, and bounce, Shaheen can not only do some conventional bowling upfront but also has all the modern-day white-ball tricks in his sleeve. His penchant to erupt with some deadly yorkers along with some subtle variations genuinely makes him an enigmatic force whose very difficult to be taken for cleaners.
Currently, with more than 50 plus wickets in both ODIs and Tests, Shaheen is the seventh fastest to 50 ODI wickets and overall ranks himself fourth in the list of best career strike-rate in ODIs (25.1). Further, the teenage pacer also even has a unique record of bagging the most consecutive four-wicket hauls (3) in ODIs.
Even in the longest format, Shaheen’s prowess has been well laid as from his booming 58 wickets, the pacer has captured six four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls. Hence, comprehensively this might be a brimming start for the teenager but in some sense indeed this is a normal start especially with oodles still left to be unveiled.
