He is known as one of the most elegant batsmen who has ever played this game. He took his retirement earlier this year following the World Cup 2015 in which he had played his last ODI against South Africa on 18 March 2015 along with Kumar Sangakkara and that was possible the end of an era for Sri Lanka in ODI cricket. He had made a century at an age of 37 years and 271 days against Afghanistan in the World Cup at University Oval. He had scored exactly 100 runs in that innings by hitting eight fours and one six in 120 balls.

Gordon Greenidge was the opening batsman of West Indies from 1974 to 1991. In his career, he played 128 ODI matches and 108 Tests. He had scored 5134 runs in ODIs at an average of 45.03 with 11 hundreds and 31 fifties. He had once made a century at the age of 37 years and 321 days. In that innings, he scored total 117 runs against India in 1989 at Antigua. He had smashed seven fours and eight sixes during that innings of 117 runs.

Desmond Haynes is known for his partnership with Gordon Greenidge during 1980s in Test cricket while playing for West Indies. He scored 7487 runs in 116 Test matches that he played for West Indies at an average of 42.29. He had scored a century once in ODI cricket at an age of 38 years and 18 days. He made this century against England in 1994 at Queen’s Park Oval. In that innings, he scored total 115 runs by hitting 14 fours. He had made 8648 runs in 238 ODI matches by scoring 17 hundreds and 57 fifties for West Indies.

Sunil Gavaskar is known as one of the greatest batsmen of all time in cricket. He had made records of most runs and most centuries scored by any batsman in Test cricket once and that record eventually was broken by his protégé Sachin Tendulkar. He had scored a century at an age of 38 years and 113 days against New Zealand in 1987 in which he had hit 103* runs by hitting 10 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 117.05.

Tillakaratne Dilshan is currently the senior member of Sri Lanka’s ODI team after the retirement of two legends Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena. He made this century against Scotland this year at an age of 38 years and 148 days in ICC World Cup of 2015 while playing for Sri Lanka. In that innings, he made 104 runs by hitting 10 fours and one six at a strike rate of 105.05. He has scored 10,104 runs for Sri Lanka in 296 matches with 22 centuries and 46 fifties and is still going strong as a batsman and who knows if he continues playing for Sri Lanka in ODIs, he might well score another century.

<strong>5. David Hemp – 38 years and 149 days:</strong>

David Hemp is a Bermudian cricketer. He had made his debut against Kenya in 2006 and from that day to his retirement day, he played 22 ODIs for Bermuda and scored 641 runs with one century and four fifties. In his armory, he had this record of making a century in ODIs at an old age of 38 years and 149 days along with many legends of the game. He had scored this century against Kenya way back in 2009. Although he had scored this century against a nation who is not a regular member of cricket but to score a century at that age, one has to have that level of fitness and he proved himself by playing that knock of 102* runs.

It is very rare to not find Tendulkar’s name in a list talking about batting records. He is at no.4 in this list of oldest player to score a century in ODI cricket. Many of us know about his 100th century in international cricket that he made against Bangladesh in 2012 at Dhaka, but most have not noticed this that at the point in time he became the third oldest player to score a century in ODIs. He had made 114 runs in that innings by hitting 12 fours and one six.

Geoffery Boycott who is currently working as a commentator, once while playing for England at an age of 39 years and 51 days scored a century against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground in 1979. He had scored 105 runs in that match. Boycott is known as one of England’s most successful opening batsmen. He was known as typical Test batsman during his time who could bat for hours and hours in Test cricket, but he had also proved his worth as a limited overs batsman in the limited opportunities that he got to represent England in ODIs. He had played 36 ODI matches for England in which he had made 1082 runs at an average of 36.06 by scoring one century and nine fifties.

Sanath Jayasuriya is known as a player who changed the look of ODI cricket with Romesh Kaluwitharana in 1996 by showcasing his hitting abilities in first 10 overs. He was a match winner for Sri Lanka during his times by serving Sri Lanka as an all-rounder. He had scored 13,430 runs and taken 323 wickets in 445 ODI matches that he played for Sri Lanka. During his career, he made and broken many records along with that he had also made a record of scoring century at the age of 39 years probably which is the proof of his fitness and commitment towards the game. He made that century against India in which he had scored 107 runs ultimately with 10 fours and one six.

Khurram Khan has played 10 ODIS for UAE since his debut against India in 2004. While representing UAE in 10 ODIS, he has scored 427 runs at an average of 53.37 with one hundred and two fifties. He scored his only ODI century of 132* against Afghanistan. With this century, he became the oldest ever player to score an ODI century at the age of 43, passing Sri Lanka&#8217;s Sanath Jayasuriya who scored his final century when he was at 39 years of age. In that innings of 132* runs, he had hit 17 fours and one six to take his team to cross Afghanistan’s total of 280.

He took his retirement earlier this year following the World Cup 2015 in which he had played his last ODI against South Africa on 18 March 2015 along with Kumar Sangakkara and that was possible the end of an era for Sri Lanka in ODI cricket. He had made a century at an age of 37 years and 271 days against Afghanistan in the World Cup at University Oval. He had scored exactly 100 runs in that innings by hitting eight fours and one six in 120 balls.</p>
<h4><strong>9. Gordon Greenidge – 37 years and 321 days:</strong></h4>

<p>Gordon Greenidge was the opening batsman of West Indies from 1974 to 1991. In his career, he played 128 ODI matches and 108 Tests. He had scored 5134 runs in ODIs at an average of 45.03 with 11 hundreds and 31 fifties. He had once made a century at the age of 37 years and 321 days. In that innings, he scored total 117 runs against India in 1989 at Antigua. He had smashed seven fours and eight sixes during that innings of 117 runs.</p>
<h4><strong>8. Desmond Haynes – 38 years and 18 days:</strong></h4>

<p>Desmond Haynes is known for his partnership with Gordon Greenidge during 1980s in Test cricket while playing for West Indies. He scored 7487 runs in 116 Test matches that he played for West Indies at an average of 42.29. He had scored a century once in ODI cricket at an age of 38 years and 18 days. He made this century against England in 1994 at Queen’s Park Oval. In that innings, he scored total 115 runs by hitting 14 fours. He had made 8648 runs in 238 ODI matches by scoring 17 hundreds and 57 fifties for West Indies.</p>
<h4><strong>7. Sunil Gavaskar – 38 years and 113 days:</strong></h4>

<p>Sunil Gavaskar is known as one of the greatest batsmen of all time in cricket. He had made records of most runs and most centuries scored by any batsman in Test cricket once and that record eventually was broken by his protégé Sachin Tendulkar. He had scored a century at an age of 38 years and 113 days against New Zealand in 1987 in which he had hit 103* runs by hitting 10 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 117.05.</p>
<h4><strong>6. Tillakaratne Dilshan – 38 years and 148 days:</strong></h4>

<p>Tillakaratne Dilshan is currently the senior member of Sri Lanka’s ODI team after the retirement of two legends Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena. He made this century against Scotland this year at an age of 38 years and 148 days in ICC World Cup of 2015 while playing for Sri Lanka. In that innings, he made 104 runs by hitting 10 fours and one six at a strike rate of 105.05. He has scored 10,104 runs for Sri Lanka in 296 matches with 22 centuries and 46 fifties and is still going strong as a batsman and who knows if he continues playing for Sri Lanka in ODIs, he might well score another century.</p>
<h4><strong>5. David Hemp – 38 years and 149 days:</strong></h4>
<p>David Hemp is a Bermudian cricketer. He had made his debut against Kenya in 2006 and from that day to his retirement day, he played 22 ODIs for Bermuda and scored 641 runs with one century and four fifties. In his armory, he had this record of making a century in ODIs at an old age of 38 years and 149 days along with many legends of the game. He had scored this century against Kenya way back in 2009. Although he had scored this century against a nation who is not a regular member of cricket but to score a century at that age, one has to have that level of fitness and he proved himself by playing that knock of 102* runs.</p>
<h4><strong>4. Sachin Tendulkar – 38 years and 327 days:</strong></h4>

<p>It is very rare to not find Tendulkar’s name in a list talking about batting records. He is at no.4 in this list of oldest player to score a century in ODI cricket. Many of us know about his 100th century in international cricket that he made against Bangladesh in 2012 at Dhaka, but most have not noticed this that at the point in time he became the third oldest player to score a century in ODIs. He had made 114 runs in that innings by hitting 12 fours and one six.</p>
<h4><strong>3. Geoffery Boycott – 39 years and 51 days:</strong></h4>

<p>Geoffery Boycott who is currently working as a commentator, once while playing for England at an age of 39 years and 51 days scored a century against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground in 1979. He had scored 105 runs in that match. Boycott is known as one of England’s most successful opening batsmen. He was known as typical Test batsman during his time who could bat for hours and hours in Test cricket, but he had also proved his worth as a limited overs batsman in the limited opportunities that he got to represent England in ODIs. He had played 36 ODI matches for England in which he had made 1082 runs at an average of 36.06 by scoring one century and nine fifties.</p>
<h4><strong>2. Sanath Jayasuriya &#8211; 39 years and 212 days:</strong></h4>

<p>Sanath Jayasuriya is known as a player who changed the look of ODI cricket with Romesh Kaluwitharana in 1996 by showcasing his hitting abilities in first 10 overs. He was a match winner for Sri Lanka during his times by serving Sri Lanka as an all-rounder. He had scored 13,430 runs and taken 323 wickets in 445 ODI matches that he played for Sri Lanka. During his career, he made and broken many records along with that he had also made a record of scoring century at the age of 39 years probably which is the proof of his fitness and commitment towards the game. He made that century against India in which he had scored 107 runs ultimately with 10 fours and one six.</p>

<p>Khurram Khan has played 10 ODIS for UAE since his debut against India in 2004. While representing UAE in 10 ODIS, he has scored 427 runs at an average of 53.37 with one hundred and two fifties. He scored his only ODI century of 132* against Afghanistan. With this century, he became the oldest ever player to score an ODI century at the age of 43, passing Sri Lanka&#8217;s Sanath Jayasuriya who scored his final century when he was at 39 years of age. In that innings of 132* runs, he had hit 17 fours and one six to take his team to cross Afghanistan’s total of 280.</p>
