One of the great South African all-rounder&#8217;s made 78 and 123 in the two innings of the Johannesburg Test against England in 1910. He also took a match haul of 8 wickets in a match-winning performance at the famous ground. His second innings ton helped the Proteas set the visitors a target of 244 which they fell short by 20 runs. He was a right-handed batsman and a leg-break bowler.

<p>One of the great South African all-rounder&#8217;s made 78 and 123 in the two innings of the Johannesburg Test against England in 1910. He also took a match haul of 8 wickets in a match-winning performance at the famous ground. His second innings ton helped the Proteas set the visitors a target of 244 which they fell short by 20 runs. He was a right-handed batsman and a leg-break bowler.</p>

<p>The first Test match to go into the sixth day also produced the first instance of a team winning after being asked to follow-on. Australia’s classy all-rounder George Giffen scored 161 in the first innings of the 1894 timeless Test match against England in Sydney. His team piled up 586 and in reply, the visitors were bowled out for 325 with Giffen taking 4 wickets. He again took 4 in England’s second innings of 437/10. A target of 177 proved beyond the reach of the home team by 11 runs despite Giffen’s 41 and Joe Darling’s 53.</p>
<h4><strong>7. William Edrich (England) 191 &amp; 8/172:</strong></h4>

<p>Englishman William Edrich made 191 and 22 not out in the two innings in the Old Trafford Test against South Africa in 1947. He also took a match haul of 8 wickets in a match-winning performance. Batting first the visitors scored 339 and the home team replied with 478 courtesy Edrich’s 191. A second innings target of 129 was easily chased down by England with 7 wickets in hand.</p>
<h4><strong>6. Richie Benaud (Australia) 100 &amp; 9/154:</strong></h4>

<p>The great Australian batted only once at the Wanderers in the 1958 Test against South Africa but scored a brilliant 100 helping his team post 401. He then took 4 wickets that helped the Aussies bowl out the home team for 203. His five-for in the follow-on innings of the Proteas gave the visitors a target of 1 run and the formality was completed in 4 balls.</p>
<h4><strong>5. Jimmy Sinclair (South Africa) 106 &amp; 9/89:</strong></h4>

<p>Another great South African all-rounder had a brilliant match against England in Cape Town in 1899 however couldn&#8217;t prevent his team from losing. He picked up 6 wickets as the visitors were bundled out for 92. He then scored 106 to put his team in a strong position as the innings ended on 177. England though bounced back with 330 with Sinclair adding 3 more wickets to his tally. A target of 246 proved too much as the home side was blown away for 35 in their second innings. Sinclair registered a rare failure scoring 4.</p>
<h4><strong>4. Ravichandran Ashwin (India) &#8211; 103 &amp; 9/190:</strong></h4>

<p>The 2011 Test in Mumbai between India and West Indies turned out to be a nail-biter. The visitors piled up 590 in the first innings that featured Ravichandran Ashwin’s five-for. He top-scored for his team with 103 and helped India score 482 in reply. His 4 and Pragyan Ojha’s 6 bundled out the Windies for 134 and gave the home team a target of 243. Ashwin was run out for 14 and India finished on 242/9 as the match ended in a dramatic draw.</p>
<h4><strong>3. Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) &#8211; 137 &amp; 10/124:</strong></h4>

<p>The star all-rounder delivered a match-winning performance for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe in Khulna in 2014. He scored 137 as the home team posted 433 in the first innings. His five-for then restricted the visitors to 368. The hosts made 248/9 in the second innings giving a target of 314. Shakib failed with the bat scoring 6, however, took 5/44 to bundle out Zimbabwe for 151 thereby securing a 162-run win for his team.</p>

<p>The legendary Pakistani all-rounder contributed with 3 wickets in India’s first innings of 372/10 in Faisalabad in the 1983 Test. He made a brilliant 117 as his team amassed 652 in reply. Imran (5/82) and Sarfraz Nawaz (4/79) helped bowl out the visitor for 286 that left the home team a target of just 7 runs. The formalities completed Pakistan’s 2-0 lead in the 6-match series.</p>

<p>The one-off Test match in 1980 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the BCCI produced a one-sided match but it was redeemed by an extraordinary all-round performance by the great Ian Botham, whose versatility was in full bloom. He took 6/58 that bowled out India for 242 at the Wankhede Stadium. He top-scored with a brilliant 114 and helped England post 296. His incredible spell of 7/48 bundled out the hosts for 149 and the target of 98 was gunned down by the English without the loss of any wicket.</p>
