The main draw of the World T20 2016 is just around the corner and in accordance to that, we bring to you the list of top 10 players who have the most number of wins under their belt in the World T20 tournament. Many players featuring in this edition have played the tournament since its inception and have accumulated lots of wins under their belt, along with a tournament title as well for some players.

<strong>10. Albie Morkel (South Africa) – 16 wins in 25 matches</strong>

South African all-rounder Albie Morkel, who unfortunately was not considered for this edition of the World T20, has played 25 matches in all in the tournament. He played in the very first edition of the tournament and was part of the team that played in last year’s tournament as well.

Morkel has won 16 matches out of the 25 he has played for South Africa in the World T20 competition. Morkel who has played the most number of T20 matches in the world -285 – is one of the best big hitters of the game and his ability to win matches has put him in the number 10 spot here.<strong>  </strong>

<strong>9. AB de Villiers (South Africa) – 16 wins in 26 matches</strong>

The king of the ODI game, Mr. 360 AB de Villiers is at the number 9 spot with 16 wins from 26 matches played in the World T20 format. De Villiers who will open the batting in this year’s tournament is regarded as one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world.

Though his One Day international heroics have not translated to a highlight performance in the T20 internationals, but his exploits in the Indian Premier League and his ability to have the option of hitting the same ball in multiple areas of the ground has made him a player that provides wholesome entertainment.

<strong>8. MS Dhoni (India) – 17 wins in 28 matches</strong>

Indian captain MS Dhoni is at no. 8 spot with 17 wins in 28 matches in the World T20 tournament. This includes the win in the final of the inaugural 2007 World T20, where India defeated Pakistan to become the first ever champions of T20 World Cup.

Dhoni with his ability to manipulate the field from behind the stumps and his innovative thinking has proven to be one of the best-limited overs captain in the history of the game. And there is no doubt in his ability to clear the boundary line with the bat in his hand, as he gave us some glimpses of the old Dhoni in the finals of the Asia Cup T20 recently.

<strong>7. Shahid Afridi (Pakistan) – 18 wins in 30 matches</strong>

Pakistan’s T20I captain Shahid Afridi has been the part of 18 wins in the 30 matches he has played so far in the tournament from 2007-2014. He was Man of the tournament in the 2007 edition and played an important role with both bat and ball for Pakistan in the 2009 edition, which Pakistan won in England.

Afridi, who has had a long career, will want to go out on a high and though we only see glimpses of his ability to change matches with the bat, he is a threat to be considered about. His bowling has just gone from good to awesome with time and he will hope to add more wins to his T20I career before saying goodbye to it.

Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews has 18 wins from just 26 matches played in the tournament. Mathews who took over the captaincy from an unfit Lasith Malinga recently, was the part of the World T20 winning team in 2014 in Bangladesh.

Mathews is a genuine all-rounder who has flourished as a captain of his side. A more than a medium fast bowler and capable hitter of the ball, he knows how to control the game and keep his side in the match with both bat and ball and he would like to add a title win to his captaincy by winning this year’s tournament as well.

<strong>5. Kamran Akmal (Pakistan) – 18 wins in 30 matches</strong>

Former Pakistani wicketkeeper and opener Kamran Akmal has played 30 matches in the World T20 and has won 18 of them. Sadly he won’t be participating in this year’s edition as the selectors decided to go with the in-form Sarfraz Ahmed in place of Akmal. Akmal, who established himself as one of the most destructive openers in the T20I format, during the first edition of the tournament has found himself in and out of the team due to inconsistent form.

<strong>4. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) – 21 wins in 31 matches</strong>

Recently retired Kumar Sangakkara played 31 matches in the World T20 tournament and won 21 matches out of them. Sangakkara also led the team in the 2009 and 2010 edition of the tournament in England and West Indies respectively.

Sangakkara had announced that he would retire from the T20 Internationals after the 2014 tournament. Fortunately, both Sangakkara and Jayawardene were able to say goodbyes to the game as champions, as Sri Lanka defeated India in the finals of the 2014 tournament.

Captain of the World T20 2014 winning team Lasith Malinga has 21 wins to his name out of 31 matches played in the World T20. Malinga, who currently resigned from the captaincy just before the World T20 2016 in India, is also fighting the time to get fit in order to play in the tournament. He is considered as one of the best death over bowlers in the T20 format and is often bowled in the last 6 overs of the innings in order to keep the runs down to the minimum.

<strong>2. Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) – 21 wins in 31 matches</strong>

Another former Sri Lankan captain, Mahela Jayawardene won 21 out of 31 matches in the World T20 tournament. He captained the side in the 2007 and 2012 editions of the tournament, where Sri Lanka lost in the finals of the 2012 edition to West Indies. Jayawardene also announced his retirement from the tournament and T20I format during the 2014 edition in Bangladesh.

Fortunately, he was able to retire as a world champion along with his good friend and teammate Kumar Sangakkara, as Sri Lanka lifted the World T20 trophy in 2014, beating India in the finals.

Tillakaratne Dilshan has been one of the most innovative batsmen in the T20 format. The inventor of the ‘dilscoop’, the shot that he unveiled in the 2009 edition of the game, Dilshan has won 21 matches out of the 31 matches played so far.

The prolific opener who has made his name as an aggressive opener, holds the record for the highest individual score in T20 internationals for Sri Lanka, 104* against Australia. He also scored the most- 307 runs in the 2009 World T20 held in England with 3 fifties in 7 matches.

<p>Tillakaratne Dilshan has been one of the most innovative batsmen in the T20 format. The inventor of the ‘dilscoop’, the shot that he unveiled in the 2009 edition of the game, Dilshan has won 21 matches out of the 31 matches played so far.</p>
<p>The prolific opener who has made his name as an aggressive opener, holds the record for the highest individual score in T20 internationals for Sri Lanka, 104* against Australia. He also scored the most- 307 runs in the 2009 World T20 held in England with 3 fifties in 7 matches.</p>

<p>The main draw of the World T20 2016 is just around the corner and in accordance to that, we bring to you the list of top 10 players who have the most number of wins under their belt in the World T20 tournament. Many players featuring in this edition have played the tournament since its inception and have accumulated lots of wins under their belt, along with a tournament title as well for some players.</p>

<h4><strong>10. Albie Morkel (South Africa) – 16 wins in 25 matches</strong></h4>

<p>South African all-rounder Albie Morkel, who unfortunately was not considered for this edition of the World T20, has played 25 matches in all in the tournament. He played in the very first edition of the tournament and was part of the team that played in last year’s tournament as well.</p>
<p>Morkel has won 16 matches out of the 25 he has played for South Africa in the World T20 competition. Morkel who has played the most number of T20 matches in the world -285 – is one of the best big hitters of the game and his ability to win matches has put him in the number 10 spot here.<strong>  </strong></p>

<p>The king of the ODI game, Mr. 360 AB de Villiers is at the number 9 spot with 16 wins from 26 matches played in the World T20 format. De Villiers who will open the batting in this year’s tournament is regarded as one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world.</p>
<p>Though his One Day international heroics have not translated to a highlight performance in the T20 internationals, but his exploits in the Indian Premier League and his ability to have the option of hitting the same ball in multiple areas of the ground has made him a player that provides wholesome entertainment.</p>

<p>Indian captain MS Dhoni is at no. 8 spot with 17 wins in 28 matches in the World T20 tournament. This includes the win in the final of the inaugural 2007 World T20, where India defeated Pakistan to become the first ever champions of T20 World Cup.</p>
<p>Dhoni with his ability to manipulate the field from behind the stumps and his innovative thinking has proven to be one of the best-limited overs captain in the history of the game. And there is no doubt in his ability to clear the boundary line with the bat in his hand, as he gave us some glimpses of the old Dhoni in the finals of the Asia Cup T20 recently.</p>
<h4><strong>7. Shahid Afridi (Pakistan) – 18 wins in 30 matches</strong></h4>

<p>Pakistan’s T20I captain Shahid Afridi has been the part of 18 wins in the 30 matches he has played so far in the tournament from 2007-2014. He was Man of the tournament in the 2007 edition and played an important role with both bat and ball for Pakistan in the 2009 edition, which Pakistan won in England.</p>
<p>Afridi, who has had a long career, will want to go out on a high and though we only see glimpses of his ability to change matches with the bat, he is a threat to be considered about. His bowling has just gone from good to awesome with time and he will hope to add more wins to his T20I career before saying goodbye to it.</p>

<p>Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews has 18 wins from just 26 matches played in the tournament. Mathews who took over the captaincy from an unfit Lasith Malinga recently, was the part of the World T20 winning team in 2014 in Bangladesh.</p>
<p>Mathews is a genuine all-rounder who has flourished as a captain of his side. A more than a medium fast bowler and capable hitter of the ball, he knows how to control the game and keep his side in the match with both bat and ball and he would like to add a title win to his captaincy by winning this year’s tournament as well.</p>

<p>Former Pakistani wicketkeeper and opener Kamran Akmal has played 30 matches in the World T20 and has won 18 of them. Sadly he won’t be participating in this year’s edition as the selectors decided to go with the in-form Sarfraz Ahmed in place of Akmal. Akmal, who established himself as one of the most destructive openers in the T20I format, during the first edition of the tournament has found himself in and out of the team due to inconsistent form.</p>
<h4><strong>4. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) – 21 wins in 31 matches</strong></h4>

<p>Recently retired Kumar Sangakkara played 31 matches in the World T20 tournament and won 21 matches out of them. Sangakkara also led the team in the 2009 and 2010 edition of the tournament in England and West Indies respectively.</p>
<p>Sangakkara had announced that he would retire from the T20 Internationals after the 2014 tournament. Fortunately, both Sangakkara and Jayawardene were able to say goodbyes to the game as champions, as Sri Lanka defeated India in the finals of the 2014 tournament.</p>

<p>Captain of the World T20 2014 winning team Lasith Malinga has 21 wins to his name out of 31 matches played in the World T20. Malinga, who currently resigned from the captaincy just before the World T20 2016 in India, is also fighting the time to get fit in order to play in the tournament. He is considered as one of the best death over bowlers in the T20 format and is often bowled in the last 6 overs of the innings in order to keep the runs down to the minimum.</p>

He captained the side in the 2007 and 2012 editions of the tournament, where Sri Lanka lost in the finals of the 2012 edition to West Indies.
