Top 10 teams with lowest team scores in World T20s

World T20 is the grandest stage in the shortest format. Teams put their best efforts to showcase their supremacy over the competing nations. The pressure is high and the competition is fierce. For some teams, these factors bring out the best from them. However, for some teams just crumble under this pressure and surrender. The outcomes of such failures are sometimes embarrassing for international standards. Here in this list we list out the teams who have been bowled out for the lowest total in World T20s. 10. The start was awful after they lost their opener Alex Hales in the first over of the second innings. The batting order then crumbled completely due to Harbhajan Singh’s bowling show of 4/42. Eventually, the Poms could manage only 80 runs and lost the match by 90 runs. Opener Craig Kieswetter was the only batsmen who spent a considerable amount of time at the crease and was their top scorer of the day with 35 runs in 25 balls. 9. Afghanistan – 80 v England (2012): (Photo Source: ICC) Afghanistan team yet again finds their name in the list. On 21 September 2012, Afghanistan met England during the group stage fixture. Afghanistan did the wrong by asking the Englishmen to bat first as Luke Wright (99 from 55 balls) along with his mates took full advantage of their wobbly bowling performance to post a target of 197 in front of the associates. Their reply to the mammoth total was miserable as the England bowlers took wicket turn by turn to destroy the entire Afghan batting order and bundle them up for just 80 runs in 17.2 over to win the match by a massive 116 runs. None of the batsmen in the Afghanistan team could manage to reach the double figures except Gulbadin Naib who scored 44 to save the team from humiliation to some extent. 8. Afghanistan – 80 v South Africa (2010): (Photo Source: Mohammad Nabi Twitter Handle) Afghanistan batsmen had a very bad day when they faced South Africa at Kennington Oval. Afghanistan were asked to chase 140 runs. The target was achievable to some extent but the South African bowlers gave them no chance. Morne Morkel (4/20), Dale Steyn (3/12) and Dale Steyn (2/6) blew the Afghan batsmen away. At one stage they were 32/8 before their tail-enders got handful of runs to save the team from the embarrassment of registering the lowest total in T20Is. They were eventually bowled out for 80 runs in 16 overs. No.10 batsman Hamid Hasan (22 runs) was the top scorer for the batting team. 7. The Indian batsmen, chasing 127 runs to win, simply could not withstand the Windies spin bowling attack led by left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner (4/11) leg-spinner Ish Sodhi (3/18) and off-spinner Nathan McCullum (2/15). The trio weaved their magic and were brilliantly reaped the benefits from the square turning wicket. Together these bowlers did a wonderful job and shared wickets among them, wrapped up India for just 79 runs in 18.1 overs. 6. Kenya – 73 v New Zealand (2007): (Photo Source: Getty Images) The Kenyan team has played only in one World T20 competition. They have an appearance only in the inaugural edition which was a quite unimpressive one for them. In the 2nd match of the Group C on 12th September 2007, New Zealand bowlers led by Mark Gillespie (4/7) totally dilapidated the Kenyan batting line-up. Shane Bond (2/12) and Mark Gillespie began by packing the top four for scores of zero. The Kenyans were 4/1. There was no recovery for the Kenya side as Chris Martin (2/14) and Daniel Vettori (2/18) then dismantled the middle order. The team could eventually reach only 73 in 16.5 overs. Colin Obuya (18 from 25 balls) and Thomas Odoyo (18 from 26 balls) were the top scorers for the batting side. 5. Afghanistan – 72 v Bangladesh (2014): (Photo Source: Facebook) Afghanistan, the rising Asian team, has also given some extraordinary performance and gained a lot of attention. But 16th March 2014 turned out to be a forgettable day for the team when they faced their Asian counterparts Bangladesh at Dhaka. The Afghanistan team, however, could not handle the disciplined bowling Bangla attack and bundled out for a miserable 72 runs. The only batsman who could show some resilience was Gulbadin Baig which scored a run a ball 21 runs. For Bangladesh, Shakib al Hasan was their best bowlers with figures of 3/8 in 3.1 overs. Bangladesh, in reply, chased down the target in 12 overs with nine wickets in hand. 4. In response Bangladesh just managed to score 70 runs in 15.4 overs. Grant Elliott, with 3/12 & Ish Sodhi’s 3/21 scripted Bangladesh an unwanted record which will be the 4th lowest total in World T20 tournament. Lower order batsman Shuvagata Hom scoring 16 runs was the highest scorer for Bangladesh in the game. No Batsman managed to cross the score of 20. 3. Hong Kong – 69 v Nepal (2014): Hong Kong. Nepal batted first on the HK’s request and put up a 150 run target to chase. The chase, however, turned out to be a terrible one for the Honk Kong team as they lost wickets in cluster and were eventually bowled out for just 69 runs in 17 overs. Every Nepal bowler had a role to play in the stupendous 80 runs win. Shakti Gauchan (3/9) and Basant Regmi (3/14) were the chief tormentors and were well supported by Sompal Kami (2/13), Paras Khadka (1/7) and Jitendra Mukhiya (1/12). 2. Ireland – 68 v West Indies (2010): Ireland. However, on 30 April 2010, there faced the heat from the West Indies at the Providence stadium, Guyana. Ireland was asked to bowl first after the home team won the toss. The Irish men did well with the ball and restricted the Windies team for a functional score of 138 runs. Ireland may have sensed an opportunity for an upset win over the strong West Indies team but they were unaware of what the opposition bowlers have in the store for them. Ravi Rampaul (3/17 and Darren Sammy (3/8) totally crushed the Ireland batting line-up. Dwayne Bravo (2/5), Kemar Roach (1/12) and Nikita Miller (1/18) also enjoyed bowling at the Irishmen. As a result, the team was rolled over for just 68 runs and lost the match by 70 runs. 1. Netherlands – 39 v Sri Lanka (2014): Netherlands.(Photo Source: AFP) This match is yet another example of a Test playing nation dominating an Associate country. On 24th March 2014, associates Netherlands were humiliated by Sri Lanka at Chittagong after they were bowled out for a terrible score of 39 runs. The Lankans won the toss and put the low ranked counterparts into bat. But, it was a very forgettable outing for the team as their batting was completely crushed by the Lankan bowling attack. Kulasekara (1/0) was the first to strike and finished with 1/0 in his two-over spell. Later, Angelo Matthew (3/16) and Ajanta Mendis (3/12) completely bossed over the clueless Dutch batsmen. Lasith Malinga also enjoyed the wicket-taking fest by snapping up two middle order wickets. The whole batting unit only last 10.3 overs with Tom Cooper (16 from 18 balls) being the top scorer for them.
