Top 10 teams that have lost most matches in International Cricket: International cricket has thrilled and entertained millions of fans across the world over the years. There have been some amazing team performances in world cricket and different teams have dominated the game of cricket at various points in time. But in the end its a game and there can only be one winner on any given day. Losing is a part of the game and the greatest teams in the world have emerged from the ashes of their own previous selves after some humiliating defeats along the road. You will read about wins and success everywhere but we decided to bring you a list of teams who have suffered most losses in world cricket just to show how teams have fared over the years. So here’s a look at the Top 10 teams that have lost most matches in International Cricket: 10. Bangladesh – (316 losses): Bangladesh has off late got into the winning mode. (© Getty Images) This is the one list where Bangladeshi fans will ejoice being at the bottom. The small Asian nation of Bangladesh has just 316 defeats to their name in world cricket. Arguably, they have played only 457 games in total from the year 1986 till today. This means that their Win to Loss (W/L) ratio is a paltry 0.382. South Africa – (357 losses): South Africa has always been a consistent performer in international cricket. (© Getty Images/Gallo Images) It’s no surprise to see the Proteas at 9th in this list with just 357 defeats in International cricket. They have players like Steyn and De Villiers in their team at the moment and defeats are supposed to be rare when you have two of the very best players with you among many. South Africa has played a total of 1036 matches and has registered an impressive 536 victories which puts their W/L ratio at 1.501. Their average of 33.05 is also the second best in this list. 8. Zimbabwe – (431 losses): Zimbabwe cricket has been on a decline in the last decade. (© Getty Images) The African nation of Zimbabwe has been beaten on 431 occasions in International cricket out of the 616 matches that they have played since 1983. They have won only 139 matches which gets them a W/L ratio of just 0.331, which is the lowest ratio for any team in this list. Their lowest score in world cricket is a meager 35. 7. Sri Lanka – (486 losses): Sri Lanka has been a team that knows the trick of winning matches at the highest level. They have won 482 and lost 486 games among those which means their W/L ratio is 0.991 in world cricket. Their highest score in a match is 952 which is also the highest for any team in world cricket. They have scored at a rate of 3.96 runs per over (RPO) in world cricket which is the highest in this list. 6. Pakistan – (529 losses): Pakistan has a winning history in international cricket. (© Getty Images) Pakistan has played a total of 1341 matches in International cricket in all the formats of the game since 1952. They have won 635 of those matches and lost 529 which puts their W/L ratio at 1.200, which is the third highest for a team in this list. Their team average is also a decent 30.95 in international cricket. 5. Australia – (538 losses): Australia is the team with most number of wins in international cricket. They have played a mammoth 1739 matches, which is the highest number in the world. Even after playing so many games it is more than impressive that they feature at only number 5 in this list. They have racked up an impressive 950 wins in these 1739 matches which means their W/L ratio of 1.765 is the best in the world. Their average of 34.07 is also the best in the world. With legends like Ponting, Mcgrath, Gilchrist, Waugh, Bevan and Hayden donning the famous yellow jersey over the years it comes as no surprise that the Kangaroos have the best winning rate in world cricket. 4. West Indies – (539 losses): West Indies has lost its winning touch in recent years. (© Getty Images) Having played 1318 matches in international cricket West Indies is also a well-travelled team in the world. They have lost 539 of those games and won 570 matches. West Indies has been playing International cricket since the year 1928. Their average in world cricket is a solid 31.19. 3. New Zealand – (552 losses): New Zealand has been a tough team to beat in international cricket. (© Getty Images) New Zealand has played a total of 1199 matches since they started playing in the year 1930. They have been beaten 552 times out of those 1179. They have also managed to register wins in 436 of those matches. Their W/L ratio is just 0.789 in world cricket. Their lowest score in a game is a paltry 26 which is also the lowest in world cricket. 2. India – (581 losses): The new age Indian teams have won a lot of matches, improving their overall records. They have managed to win 616 of those and have been defeated in 581 matches in all formats of the game. Their W/L ratio is also a decent 1.060. Their average of 33.00 is also the third highest in this list after Australia and South Africa. Even after producing (arguably) the best batsman of all time in Tendulkar, India’s performances as a team in world cricket has been somewhat below par in their overall history. 1. England – (636 losses): England the inventors of the game of cricket has the worst winning record. They have been playing cricket since 1877 after the first ever game of cricket against Australia. They have picked up 703 wins and a disappointing 636 losses in International cricket. Their highest score in an International match is 903 which is the second highest after Sri Lanka’s 952.
