Top 10 Teams with most international away matches: Playing in home territory does not present a substantial challenge to any cricket team. As they say everyone is a lion in their own den, but it is when you cross your shores that the real skill comes into play. All teams look good when playing in the conditions they are familiar with but when they travel to another country the picture is markedly different. Over the years only some sides have managed to give worthy performances even away from home. Here we take a look at Top 10 Teams with most international away matches: 10. Bangladesh – 229 Bangladesh. (Photo Source: AFP) Right from the time they became a prominent force in the 90s after beating Pakistan in the World Cup, Bangladesh have improved manyfolds as an international side. They have not only competed but in recent times also proved that they can topple big teams. Their win against England in the 2015 ODI World Cup provides ample proof of that. Though they have shown signs of growth their performances away from Bangladesh continue to be a worry. They have just won 47 of their 229 games not played on Bangladeshi soil. They have played 348 away games but have a dismal win/loss ratio of 0.28. Currently involved in an ODI series with Pakistan, their players have also been hit by financial troubles. Once they used to be a formiddable sided but recent results have been horrid to say the least. They will have to pull up their socks soon or will be out of the top 10 teams in ICC rankings. 8. They formally returned to international cricket in 1990 after intervention by the ICC. They are one rare team which has performed exceedingly well even away from home. Remarkably out of the 547 games they have played they have won more than 50% (262) and most host sides remain weary if they are due for a tour. 7. New Zealand – 688 New Zealand. Their stays in particularly the subcontinent have been far from impressive and reflects in these figures. Despite being Australia’s neighbours their performance down under has also been nothing of note. Not being able to play quality spin and seam bowling are major reasons for their ordinary away record. 6. Sri Lanka – 691 Sri Lanka. ( © Getty Images) The Lankan lions have played 691 games away from the island losing a majority 363 of them. They have also been involved in 4 tied games across formats in these encounters. Individual brilliance and prowess can not guarantee you wins in cricket and the Lankan outfit is a perfect example. While playing in England, Australia, South Africa the Lankan players are mostly exposed and capitulate in spectacular fashion. 5. West Indies – 826 West Indies. (© Getty Images) Once the Carribean team used to be world beaters. In the 70s and 80s with a fiery pace bowling group and some attacking batsmen, they were almost unbeatable. But from 90s onwards the decline began and hasn’t been addressed till date. Out of the 826 games they have won 348 and drawn 78. This might not look that bad on paper but it does not regard the recent sorry state of cricket affairs in the islands. 4. India – 876 India. India were a mere pushovers as a touring side for most of the time until Sourav Ganguly and his men decided to change that notion. Even with players like Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev the Indian outfit struggled out of their waters. Under MS Dhoni much of the good work of the Ganguly regime was undone. India were also involved in 6 tied games playing away from their territory. 3. Australia – 883 Australia. Looking at their numbers you would be astonished if they were actually achieved away from Australia. Out of the 883 games they have won 440 and have the best win loss ratio among all nations of 1.4. India was considered to be their final frontier but they conquered that with a memorable series victory in 2004. 2. England – 904 England. (© Getty Images) Considered a boring Test side when away from UK, the numbers justify that claim. Having played a whopping 993 games they have won only 334. Out of all countries they have the maximum drawn games – 162 under their kitty. The oldest nation to have had the Cricket knowledge and experience amongst all others England traditionally struggle against spin bowling. But their record on fast and bouncy tracks is nothing to boast off either. All in all the English perform only when in their comfort zone. 1. Pakistan – 1000 Pakistan. They hold the unique distinction of having won, lost and tied most away games. This is also a reflection of them not getting the opportunity to play in Pakistan due to security reasons. They have made the middle east their new cricketing base in order to maintain their cricket ties with other countries. They occupy the top spot and the next side England is almost 100 games away.
