Top 10 Wicket Keepers with most centuries in international cricket: Like a ‘Goal-Keeper’ in football the ‘Wicket Keeper’ is one of the most influential and important player in the game of cricket. A keeper catches everything a bowler throws at him. We have seen some brilliant skills from some great keepers over the years like Adam Gilchrist and more recently, AB de Villiers. But keeping is just one of the skills that makes them good, its their batting contributions towards their respective teams that make them truly great. So here’s a list of Top 10 Wicket Keepers with most centuries in international cricket: 10. Matt Prior (England) – 7 centuries: Matt Prior. (© Getty Images) The English wicket keeper batsman who recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket is the first English wicket-keeper to hit a century in his debut match. Matt Prior hit 126 in his debut match in 2007 and played an important role in the England team. His keeping skills were often criticized but he was a regular in the England line up for most part of his career. He has hit a total of 7 centuries in a career spanning from 2006 till 2014. He is regarded as one of the best wicket keeper-batsmen of all time. Averaging over 43, Ames scored a total of 8 centuries for England along with 7 fifties. It is also worth noting that Les Ames played just 44 matches in his long career (almost a 100 less than Matt Prior) and is still in top 10 list of keepers with most centuries in International cricket. 8. The New Zealand skipper started off as a batsman for the team and has now transformed into a world-class wicket keeper. His record of 9 centuries does not include the centuries he scored for the team while he was not a keeper. He has scored 44 fifties and his high score is 185 in International cricket as a wicket keeper. 7. Alec Stewart (England) – 10 centuries: Alec Stewart. He has scored 8557 runs in the 220 matches he has played for England. Stewart scored his runs at an average of 34.22. He has accumulated a total of 11 centuries and 27 fifties in a total of 260 matches for Pakistan. He was also investigated by the ICC for match fixing and later cleared. Perhaps it is a surprise to not see him a little higher up the list. MSD has scored a mammoth 14345 runs in International cricket which includes 15 centuries and 92 fifties. He averages above 45 and has played 405 matches for India. 4. Andy Flower (Zimbabwe) – 16 centuries: Andy Flower. His wicket keeping skills were also widely regarded as one of the best and his accomplishments are noteworthy, especially while playing for a team who never really challenged the great teams like Australia or India at any point. Flower accumulated 16 centuries and 69 fifties at an average of above 40. 3. AB de Villiers (South Africa) – 17 centuries: Ab de Villiers. He is the most complete players in many senses as his keeping, batting and fielding are extremely sharp and he has been an indispensable part of the South African team for quite some time now. ABD has scored 5255 runs at an average of nearly 56. His average of 55.90 is the highest in this list of top 10 keepers. 2. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) – 30 centuries: Kumar Sangakkara. He has scored a total of 30 centuries and a record 110 fifties (most for a wicket keeper) in the 464 matches he has played for Sri Lanka.
