Top 10 Wicket-keepers with Most Stumpings in International Cricket: The job of a wicket keeper is unarguably one of the toughest jobs in cricket. You will have to stand behind the stumps with your knees bent for the entire duration of the innings and keep your eyes fixed on every ball bowled. And the responsibility doesn’t end with that, you will have to also don the role of batting. Such an under appreciated job it is.

Now let us look at the Top 10 Wicket-keepers with Most Stumpings in International Cricket:

10. Nayan Mongia (India) – 52:

Currently a cricket analyst, Nayan Mongia played 44 tests and 140 ODIs as an Indian wicket keeper batsman. He has effected 52 stumpings in his career. Match fixing allegations and inconsistency ruined what could have been a wonderful cricketing career. Mongia was one of the best wicket-keeper batsmen in Indian cricket history before MS Dhoni came on to change the scenes forever.

9. Late Bert Oldfield (Australia) – 52:

William Albert Stanley Bert Oldfield was an Australian wicket-keeping batsman. He played 54 tests for his country and effected as many as 52 stumpings. An oval in the Sydney suburb of Killara is named in Oldfield’s honor.

8. Ian Healy (Australia) – 68:

Ian Healy the former Australian wicket keeper was a useful right hand middle order batsman. Healy has played 119 tests and 168 ODI’s for Australia and effected 68 stumpings. Along with his wicket-keeping contributions he has also scored over 4000 runs in tests.

7. Mushfiqur Rahim (Bangladesh) – 73:

Mushfiqur Rahim is easily one of the greatest servants of Bangladeshi cricket. The right-handed wicket keeper batsman is also leading the Bangladesh team in test cricket now. He has a batting average of over 30 in both tests and ODI’s. Rahim has effected 72 stumpings in his international career as of now.

6. Kamran Akmal (Pakistan) – 85:

Kamran Akmal of Pakistan has played 53 tests and 151 ODI’s for the national team. He played for his side owing to his batting and wicket keeping abilities. Though regarded as a wicket-keeper with buttered gloves Kamran has done his bit behind the stumps. He has effected 85 stumpings overall in his career.

5. Adam Gilchrist (Australia) – 92:

The Australian legend has the record for most number of catches by a wicket keeper. The power hitting aggressive opening batsman has had a successful international career where Gilly averages over 47 in tests and over 35 in ODI’s. He has effected 92 stumpings in his career, the 5th most by a stumper.

4. Moin Khan (Pakistan) – 93:

Moin Khan of Pakistan has effected 93 stumpings in his international career. He had to constantly compete with Rashid Latif for the keeper’s gloves in the national team. Moin was also a good middle order batsman and has done exceptionally well for Pakistan in his 15 year long international career.

3. R. Kaluwatharana (Sri Lanka) – 101:

Romesh Kaluwitharana is one of the only three wicket keepers to cross the 100 stumpings mark in international cricket. He was also a good batsman for Sri Lanka and played 49 tests, 169 ODIs for the country.

2. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) – 139:

A great wicketkeeper and a batsman par excellence is this man Kumar Sangakkara. The Sri Lankan veteran has effected 139 stumpings in his stellar career. Sanga is also one of the greatest ever to wield a cricket bat in hand. He is the best wicket-keeper from Sri Lanka and one of the best in the world. Sangakkara’s batting records are quite untouchable.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni of India has been a wonderful wicketkeeper for India and one of the best finishers in limited overs cricket. He has effected 151 stumpings in his illustrious career and is ahead of Kumar Sangakkara. Dhoni has the distinction of winning all ICC trophies as captain. Has been the best wicket-keeper batsman to have every represented the Indian team.
