3. Ricky Ponting (Australia) – 279 innings:
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting scored his 25th ODI century in the 279th inning. His 25th century came against New Zealand in 2007 and was an unbeaten 134*.
Ponting is widely regarded as one of the batting greats of the modern era and probably the best captain Australia ever had. He took over from Steve Waugh in 2001-02 and in the next decade, took Australia to the peak of ODI success, winning 2 ODI World Cups in the process and breaking many records like becoming the first team ever in ODIs to make 400 runs in an innings. Ponting retired in 2012 after playing 375 matches and making a total of 30 ODI hundreds, the last of which came in the Australia’s quarterfinal loss at the hands of India in the World Cup 2011.
