The original master blaster of One Day cricket, Sir Viv was the first batsmen to reach 5000 runs in 114 innings in ODI. He did it against England in an ODI in 1986-87 during an innings of 58 runs.

Richards was the first batsman to dominate the bowing in One Day formats. He held the highest score record for his 189* till Saeed Anwar broke it in 1997. Most cricketers believe that Richards was a notch higher than Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar when it came to One day internationals.
