Top 5 batsmen with most sixes in a single World Cup innings: World cup is an event which gives everyone a chance to shine at the biggest stage and make a name for themselves. And there is nothing better than making your name as a big hitter as everyone remembers an innings filled with fireworks.
Here are 5 such batsmen who hit most sixes in a single World cup innings:
5. Chris Gayle (WI)- 8 vs New Zealand 2015 World Cup
Chris Gayle hit 8 sixes in his 61 runs chasing New Zealand’s massive 393/6. New Zealand got to that total thanks to Martin Guptill’s 237* and West Indies knew that if Chris Gayle fired, they would at least reach near the total. Gayle fired, for a while making 61 off 38 balls with 2 fours and 8 sixes, before Adam Milne demolished his stumps. West Indies folded for 250 and New Zealand will now face South Africa in the semis.
Adam Gilchrist (Australia)- 8 vs. Sri Lanka 2007 World Cup (Final)
Adam Gilchrist was silent for the whole tournament until the final. Australia was put into bat and Adam Gilchrist launched a striking assault on the Sri Lankan bowlers which contained 8 sixes and 13 fours.
This assault was enough to take Australia to 281 in 38 overs. And SriLanka lost by 53 runs via D/L method when rain and bad light ended the game early.
