Angelo Mathews is no.4 in the list of Top 5 test batsmen in 2014. Angelo Mathews started his career off as a bowling all-rounder, but has matured himself into more of a batting all-rounder. 2014 is a game changing year for Mathews, for he has really matured as a test cricketer and as captain of the Srilankan team. He has led the team well, for the frontline batsman in him has come to the fore. Mathews has scored 1044 runs from 10 test matches at an average of 80.30. The batting average specially looks stunning for someone who made his way in Test cricket initially as a bowling all-rounder. If there is probably someone, at the moment to be called as a successor to Jacques Kallis it should be Angelo Mathews.
