4. MS Dhoni
Be it his agile wicketkeeping, exemplary finishing and quick presence of mind, MS Dhoni is considered as one of the best skippers to have braced the sport. No one could’ve imagined that a young boy from Ranchi could establish himself as the most decorated skipper in Indian cricket. Ganguly, along with Dhoni, is credited for the overhaul of Team India.
There was no looking back for Dhoni after clinching the T20 World Cup in South Africa. He eventually went on to steer India to 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. He is the only skipper to have won three major ICC trophies.
Barring the silverware, Dhoni also earned many accolades for his batting skills. One of the calm and composed minds of the game, Dhoni, many a time, steered India to the triumph from the jaws of defeat. No Indian can forget Dhoni’s last-ball six at Wankhede to end India’s 28-year long wait of the World Cup trophy.
Despite being in the latter stage of his career, 39-year-old Dhoni is still seen as an indispensable part of the Indian side. He hasn’t braced the field since India’s 2019 World Cup oust but ardent Dhoni fans are still hoping to witness some ‘Helicopters’ off the veteran’s willow.
After breaking into the Indian side in 2004, Dhoni has donned the national jersey in 538. He has gathered 17266 runs at an impressive average of 44.96, including 16 tons and 108 half-centuries. Amid the uncertainty regarding Dhoni’s international future, there are doubts over him adding more international runs under his belt.
