Some players have to helplessly see their teammates fall from the other end while as they score runs with ease. The team falters overall, but only one stands tall. Watching lone fighter bat would make contrasting views crop up in the minds of the viewers. As on one hand, there’s no one who is able to find a foot while on the other hand there one guy who faces the opposition bowlers pretty comfortably. (© Getty Images) Gordon Greenidge takes the last spot in the list. Greenidge’s knock of 134 against England at Manchester in the year 1976 constituted to 63.50% of his teams total. West Indies made only 211 in the first innings as only two other batsmen could manage to get to a double figure mark. West Indies, eventually, went on to win the Test by 425 runs. 4. Brathwaite top-scored for his team with 94 runs in the second innings. It accounted for 63.31 runs of West Indies’ tiny total of 148. His innings had little impact as the Australian fast bowlers skittled West Indies and won the match by an innings and 212 runs to Australia. 3. VVS Laxman – 63.99% (India): (© Getty Images) VVS Laxman is the only middle order batsman to feature in this list. In 2000, during the Sydney Test, India were bowled out for 261 against Australia. The stylish right hander’s 167 made up 63.98 % of the total runs scored by India. His heroics could not save the match as the Aussies won the match comprehensively by an innings and 141 runs. 2. Michael Slater – 66.85% (Australia): Michael Slater. (© Hamish Blair/ALLSPORT) Opener Michael Slater came out in the second innings with Australia in a comfortable position in the 5th Test of the Ashes series at Sydney. Slater batted till the seventh wicket fell and made 123 in the second innings as the rest of the team surrendered to the English bowlers. His 123 constituted 66.84% of the 184 which the Australian team managed in the third innings. However, Stuart MacGill’s stupendous bowling efforts stole the show and his efforts were overshadowed. 1. The occasion was the one which would always be special in the history of cricket as it was the first ever Test played between Australia and England in Melbourne in 1877. The Aussie opener scored an unbeaten 165. It accounted for 67.34 % of his team’s total of 245.
