This match was the turning point for Pakistan in their journey for triumph in the 1992 World cup. England won the toss in this important encounter and put Pakistan to bat under overcast conditions. The English fast bowlers soon destroyed the Pakistani top and middle order and Pakistan were soon bowled out for just 74 runs in 40 overs. Saleem Malik and Mushtaq Ahmed top scored with 17 each.
England began their chase steadily with 24 runs off 8 overs and was sure to win the match, but the weather decided to play spoil sport and it rained for the entire day. The match had to be called off and both teams shared the points.
