Greg Ritchie, who walked to bat at No.5, played a crucial role in powering the Australians to a solid total.

It was the first and only wicket via stumping for Kapil Dev in his International career where he scalped a total of 687 wickets. Interestingly, some news reports of the match suggest that Ritchie was caught behind.

<p>The 6-match ODI series between India and Australia was tied at 1-1 before the 3rd match hosted by Hyderabad. Between the 2nd and the 3rd ODI, the two teams met in the Chennai Test which ended in a Tie. India, who narrowly lost during the 2nd ODI in Jaipur, elected to field first after winning the toss. Australia’s top three batters got starts but all fell in a quick span leaving them 111/3 in 28.3 overs. Greg Ritchie, who walked to bat at No.5, played a crucial role in powering the Australians to a solid total.</p>
<p>Ritchie batted together with <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/parthiv-patel-recalls-sledging-steve-waughs-son-using-famous-line-you-were-in-nappies-when-i-played-my-first-test-match/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Steve Waugh</strong></a> to add quick runs after the visitors lost half the side at the score of 159. The duo added 83 runs in 9.4 overs before Ritchie was stumped by Chandrakant Pandit on the last ball of Australia’s innings in the bowling of Kapil Dev. It was the first and only wicket via stumping for Kapil Dev in his International career where he scalped a total of 687 wickets. Interestingly, some news reports of the match suggest that Ritchie was caught behind.</p>
<p>As there is no video footage available, we can assume Pandit was standing up to Ritchie who was beaten playing a shot on the last ball. Greg Ritchie scored 75 from only 53 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes as Australia reached 242/6 in 47 overs before their innings halted due to India’s slow-over rate. The Indian team were 41/1 in 10.4 overs during their chase before a storm put an end to the match without the result being determined.</p>

<h3>4. Tim Southee – Ricky Ponting in 2011</h3>

<p>New Zealand faced Australia in the group match of the 2011 World Cup in Nagpur. The Kiwis, who batted first after losing the toss, tried to score at a brisk rate but ended up losing wickets at regular intervals. They were reduced to 73/6 by the end of 17th over and were 7 wickets down for 121 by 29th over. Nathan McCullum (52) and skipper Daniel Vettori (44) played crucial role in taking New Zealand to 206 before they were bowled out in the 46th over of the innings.</p>
<p>Australia openers Shane Watson (62) and Brad Haddin (59) began the chase with quick-fire fifties. They added 133 runs in only 18 overs as Australia were set to finish off the match quickly. But Hamish Bennett’s slower balls did the trick for the Blackcaps as both Haddin and Watson were dismissed in the space of three deliveries. After a couple of overs, Tim Southee began to trouble the Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting during his 2nd spell where he made a couple of unsuccessful appeals.</p>
<p>Southee tried to unsettle the legendary batsman by bowling a maiden over while coming round the wicket. In the 27th over, Southee bowled one down the leg-side with <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2020-can-target-october-window-and-t20-world-cup-could-be-pushed-to-2021-brendon-mccullum/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Brendon McCullum</strong></a> standing up to the stumps. Ponting came out of his crease in an unsuccessful attempt of playing a flick shot and was stumped by the wicket-keeper that too on a wide. Tim Southee, till date, has claimed 552 wickets in International cricket but Ricky Ponting in the 2011 CWC remains his only wicket via stumping.</p>

<h3>3. Shaun Pollock – Ramnaresh Sarwan in 2005</h3>

<p>South Africa team clinched the 4-match Test series in their 2005 tour of West Indies by 2-0 margin. It was followed by a 5-match ODI series that kicked off in Kingston. After winning the toss, the Caribbean team were three down for 56 in 15.5 overs. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/i-have-always-respected-him-as-an-extraordinary-talent-ramnaresh-sarwan-shocked-over-chris-gayles-allegations-against-him/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Ramnaresh Sarwan</strong></a> shared a 106-run partnership with Shivnarine Chanderpaul for the 4th wicket in 117 balls. Shaun Pollock returned for his last spell just when another partnership between Sarwan and Dwayne Smith was building up.</p>
<p>Pollock conceded 39 runs in his first six overs and was desperate to pick up a wicket and keep down the home team to a modest total. Sarwan came forward to work a full ball towards the leg-side but ended up getting beaten. He also lost his balance and came a couple of steps out of the crease. Mark Boucher, who was standing at the stumps, quickly removed the bails to put an end to Sarwan’s gritty knock. The No.3 batsman faced as many as 111 balls for his 72 which included three fours and a six.</p>
<p>It turned out to be only stumping wicket in International Cricket for Shaun Pollock of his 829 scalps. Smith smashed 46 from only 37 balls but West Indies were bowled out for 253 in 48.5 overs. They lost their last four wickets in space of 12 balls scoring 12 runs. Sarwan scored only 17 runs from his first 51 balls and was set towards a strong finish. His presence could have helped the West Indies finish with at least 275. The Proteas chased down the target of 254 in only 45 overs by losing only two wickets.</p>

<h3>2. Chaminda Vaas – Brian Lara in 2007</h3>

<p>The hosts West Indies faced off Sri Lanka in a crucial Super Eight match during the 2007 World Cup. West Indies needed a win to stay in the contention to make it to the semi-final. Sanath Jayasuriya smashed 115 from only 101 balls as Sri Lanka posted 303/5 in their 50 overs. Skipper Mahela Jayawardene anchored the innings with 113-ball 82. The duo of Sanath and Mahela added 183 for the 3rd wicket in only 30 overs after they lost two early wickets.</p>
<p>Chasing a huge target, the West Indies lost their openers at the score of 40 in 8.3 overs. The home team captain Brian Lara walked to bat carrying lot of hopes on his shoulder. He was up against Chaminda Vaas who was going through a tight spell with <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/kumar-sangakkara-wants-australia-england-or-south-africa-to-play-in-pakistan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Kumar Sangakkara</strong></a> standing up to stumps. Vaas had figures of 5-1-15-1 that included the wicket of Dwayne Bravo during the mandatory powerplay and was allowed to continue his spell.</p>
<p>Lara was beaten trying to drive a length delivery from Vaas on the first ball of the 11th over. Sangakkara noticed Lara’s back foot outside the crease and quickly removed the bails. He was declared out after the 3rd umpire went through various replays. Vaas bowled with the keeper standing up to the stumps on numerous occasions but Lara’s wicket was the only time he claimed an International wicket through stumping. Vaas has picked 761 International wickets which are the 6th highest for any pacer.</p>

<p>Australia’s tour of New Zealand in 2005 began with a T20I; the first-ever T20I game in Men’s cricket. It was followed by a 5-match ODI series that began in Wellington. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Australia managed to finish on 236/7; only 22 runs more than what they posted in the T20I. Between the 31st and 40th over, the Aussies scored just 22 runs and lost 4 wickets. In pursuit of a 237-run target, the Kiwis found themselves five down for only 113 during the 34th over.</p>
<p>Hamish Marshall and Craig McMillan began the rescue act with a 66-run partnership in less than 10 overs. Just when the home team began to get hold of the chase, some smart work from the Australians put a break to the game-changing stand. Adam Gilchrist stood at the stumps in <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/go-back-and-bowl-again-as-i-am-still-here-sachin-tendulkar-recalls-his-duel-with-glenn-mcgrath-in-1999-adelaide-test/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Glenn McGrath</strong></a>’s bowling during the 43rd over. McGrath was on top-notch in the game as his opening spell read 7-3-7-1. He gave away only four runs in the 41st over and just three runs in the first three balls of the 43rd over.</p>
<p>McMillan walked down the track on the last ball but McGrath bowled a fuller delivery. The NZ batsman failed to connect and was stumped brilliantly by Gilchrist. The equation went down to 19 from 16 balls before Brett Lee struck twice in the 48th over. McGrath wrapped up a 10-run win by bagging the last two wickets including Hamish Marshall who scored 76 off 69. The wicket of McMillan was the turning point in the game for Aussies which turned to be the only stumping scalp of McGrath’s 949 International wickets.</p>
