#3 AB de Villiers’s 89 vs Kings XI Punjab
The South African superstar had missed the first two games for Royal Challengers Bangalore due to an injury but made a comeback against Kings XI Punjab in Indore. RCB chose to bat after calling the right side of the coin but lost heaps of wickets at the start. Shane Watson, Vishnu Vinod and Kedar Jadhav went back to the pavilion inside 5 overs and they were tottering at 3/22.
AB who had walked out to bat at number 3 was still at the crease and focused on rebuilding the innings. He found support from Mandeep Singh and the duo added 46 runs for the fourth wicket. But when Mandeep departed in the 14th over, the score read 4/68 and they were still far from a respectable total.
But just then, AB took it upon himself to take his team to a fighting total. He went absolutely berserk in the slog overs and smashed 8 sixes in the final 5 overs. RCB collected a massive 77 runs in the last 5 overs and reached 4/148 at the end of 20 overs. AB remained unbeaten at 89 off only 46 deliveries that consisted of 3 fours and 9 sixes. The fans were treated to a special innings as he showed his 360 degrees game at the Holkar Stadium.
But the target of 149 didn’t prove to be enough and KXIP chased it down in just the 15th over with 8 wickets in hand courtesy a half-century from Hashim Amla and a quickfire knock of 43 from Glenn Maxwell.
