It was the first game of the season for Delhi Daredevils as they visited Royal Challengers Bangalore and the home side batted first after winning the toss. A wonderful innings of 69 off 37 balls by Kedar Jadhav propelled them to a respectable total of 8/157 at the end of 20 overs.

The Delhi side suffered a flurry of wickets and kept losing one after the other. Rishabh Pant had suffered a huge loss in his life as his father had passed away a couple of days before the game and yet he showed great courage to play for his side. He was the only player who looked comfortable batting in the middle and kept the hopes for DD alive.

The left-hander slammed some lusty blows and kept the required run rate in check. The equation was down to 21 off the last 2 overs and he unluckily faced just one ball in the penultimate over and only 2 runs were scored. He was on the strike for the last over when 19 were needed and everyone wanted Pant to finish the game for his side after what he had gone through in the previous 2 days.

The skipper Shane Watson handed the ball to Pawan Negi to bowl the last over. It was a risky call to introduce a left-arm spinner against the left-handed batsman. It seemed like a lovely story was being scripted for Pant but to everyone’s disappointment, he was bowled around his leg off the first delivery. The gamble paid off for RCB as they ultimately won the game by 15 runs. Pant’s innings was curtailed to 57 off 36 balls that had 3 fours and 4 sixes but he deserved all the praises in the world to come out and represent the side even in the times of crisis.
