After an ordinary performance in the 2008 season, the Deccan Chargers were clinical to seal a title victory in the 2009 season. One of the fixtures, which enhanced their confidence to seal the game from any situation was match 48 against Kolkata Knight Riders. The Riders posted a score of 160 on the board, with a fine start from their openers Brendon McCullum (20) and Sourav Ganguly (33). However, the likes of Brad Hodge (48) and David Hussey (43) held the key for them in the middle order.

With the challenge of chasing 161, the Chargers were up to their task with the openers Adam Gilchrist (43) and Herschelle Gibbs (28) setting up a platform for the team. Then, T. Suman and Andrew Symonds were involved in a quickfire partnership, which aided the team to be in reach of the opposition’s score.

In the last over, the team required 21 off six balls. On the first ball of the over, Mashrafe Mortaza delivered a no-ball, which was put away for a four by Rohit Sharma. With two singles on the subsequent balls, Sharma slammed a six on the third ball of the innings. The next one ended as a wide, and the fourth ball fetched two runs for the batting team. With five off two balls, Sharma slammed a four and a six to secure a sensational victory for the Chargers and finished with 32* of 13 balls.
