351 players went under the hammer on Saturday at the IPL 2016 Auctions. While the big names like Martin Guptill, George Bailey and Darren Sammy found no takers in the auction some rookies made the headlines with high bids. Well, it wouldn’t be wrong to quote that this auction has been the one dominated by the Indian youngsters. The likes of Karun Nair, Rishabh Pant and Pawan Negi were expected to bag big bids, kudos to their impressive performances in the domestic season. But then there was a league of surprise selections of a few names unknown to many. Here are the 5 unknown picks at the IPL 2016 Auction.

1. Nathu Singh – MI (3.2 crores):

Nathu Singh, who had the base price of 10 lakhs, was bought for 3.2 crores by the Mumbai Indians. Son of a labourer, this 20-year-old from Rajasthan is renowned for bowling at express pace, often clocking speeds over 140 kmph. During the auctions, it was a three-way battle for the youngster between Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. It was the Mumbai Paltan that eventually bagged the rookie paceman. Having trained under Glenn McGrath at the MRF Foundation, Nathu Singh has a 7-wicket haul to his name in his short first-class career already.
