Widen Cricketers’ Almanac termed the incident as “One of the most undignified incidents in Test history”. Now, let’s rewind you back to the Australia v Pakistan encounter from 1981. Miandad was taking a single when Lilee turned back to get into the batsmen’s way. But, instead Lille claimed that it was Miandad who struck him on his back with the bat. Lilee in a bullish way kicked Miandad’s flush on his thigh in that too in front view of the umpire at the non-striker’s end.
Miandad was infuriated and in the heat of the moment lifted his bat to strike Lilee. The Umpires had to force them out of it and calm the scene, which could have well worsened. Ultimately, after much pressure encompassing from all the corners, Cricket Australia (CA) banned Lilee for two matches as the touring party even threatened to leave the tour.
