The 1996 World Cup semi-final should have been an epic encounter, but instead, it turned out to be a damp squib. With Sri Lanka scoring 251-8, and India at 98-1, everyone expected a classic competitive game but all hell broke loose as soon as Sachin Tendulkar got out.

Indian score skidded from 98-1 to 120-8 as the crowd turned into a riot following the poor performances. The crowd threw bottles on the ground and set various stands on fire. Match referee Clive Lloyd awarded the game to the Sri Lankans as Vinod Kambli left the field breaking into tears.
