Dennis Amiss was a very good opening batsman and he lit up the very first match of the first Prudential World cup in 1975 with a wonderful century.

The match was played at the historical Lord’s ground in England. Amiss batting first, made 137 runs at a strike rate of 93. England scored a mammoth 334 runs in 60 overs. India just managed to get just 132 runs on the board with Sunil Gavaskar making a tortured 36 runs off 174 balls and remained not out.

This made Dennis Amiss the first ever batsman to make a century on World cup debut.
