Sohail Khan became the second bowler from Pakistan to take a 5 wicket haul against India in World cup matches. This was also his debut match in World cup tournament, making him second bowler after Steven Finn in this tournament and the 9th bowler overall to take 5 wickets on World cup debut.

Sohail who was a controversial choice as a replacement for Junaid Khan, justified his selection by removing the in form Rohit Sharma for 15 runs. He then returned to remove Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina just in time when India was looking to accelerate the scoring in the last 10 overs.

Thanks to his efforts and support from other bowlers like Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Irfan, Pakistan restricted India to just 300 runs when they were poised for a score in excess of 330.
