With a hugely successful 2015 World Cup all doubts have been put to rest about the future of ODI cricket. It is still a format which provides a platform for the tough Test match skills and the razzmatazz of the T20s to be on display.

And despite the batsmen dominating the 50 over version off late, there has been no shortage of prolific performers in the bowling department.

They have not only kept the best of batters in check but also provided with crucial wickets. And the pace bowlers have been hugely triumphant after the two new ball rule. So it is an exciting proposition if we try and figure out the best of the lot.

Malinga has developed into Sri Lanka&#8217;s best ODI bowler, With unorthodox technique, he delivers the ball with a side-arm action learnt from playing softball cricket during his childhood.

Bangladesh finally has a fantastic pace battery at their disposal with the oncoming of Mustafizur Rahman. His skills were aptly on display when India toured Bangladesh in May and he took a fifer on debut.

<p>Finn is also the youngest England pacer to pick 50 ODI wickets and is just 2 short off the 100 wicket mark. He was a prolific performer for the hosts in the 5 game ODI series which England lost against the Aussies.</p>
<p>Pinging the ball down from the clouds he has the heady blend of pace and trampolining bounce to rattle the best players. With James Anderson no more being in England’s ODI plans, Finn will be expected to rise to the occasion and take up the lead bowlers role.</p>

<p>With a hugely successful 2015 World Cup all doubts have been put to rest about the future of ODI cricket. It is still a format which provides a platform for the tough Test match skills and the razzmatazz of the T20s to be on display.</p>
<p>And despite the batsmen dominating the 50 over version off late, there has been no shortage of prolific performers in the bowling department.</p>
<p>They have not only kept the best of batters in check but also provided with crucial wickets. And the pace bowlers have been hugely triumphant after the two new ball rule. So it is an exciting proposition if we try and figure out the best of the lot.</p>

<h4><strong>1. India &#8211; Mohammad Shami</strong></h4>

<p>Shami has been a revelation from the time he arrived on the international circuit. He will be the fastest bowler to 100 ODI wickets if he manages to take 13 more in the next five games. That would be quite an achievement considering pace has never been India’s strong point.</p>
<p>Shami was the highest wicket taker for the men in blue in the 2015 World Cup and bowled with serious pace and venom. The slight change in the run-up has helped him stay injury free and at his menacing best in big matches. He has the rare ability to seam the ball even on less assisting tracks.</p>
<p>Batsmen who try to step out are given a flurry of bouncers to deal with. Though he is out with an injury, Shami remains the best ODI pacer of India and the team management will be hoping for his speedy recovery.</p>

<h4><strong>2. Pakistan &#8211; Mohammad Irfan</strong></h4>

<p>The man who has nothing common when it comes to physique is one of the most penetrating fast bowlers of modern cricket. Having made his debut quite late, Irfan’s career has been a tale of brilliance and frequent fitness issues.</p>
<p>But whenever the lanky seamer is in flow, it is a sight to behold. Irfan manages to get the extra bounce from even the most placid of tracks. He has the ability to swing the ball both ways and batsmen find it tough to deal that left arm angle coupled with the high release point.</p>
<p>His economy rate of 4.91 in the 59 matches he has played speaks volumes about his new ball skills and immaculate death bowling. Though he took 8 wickets in the 2015 World Cup, they came at an impressive average of 23.</p>
<h4><strong>3. Sri Lanka &#8211; Lasith Malinga</strong></h4>

<p>Malinga has developed into Sri Lanka&#8217;s best ODI bowler, With unorthodox technique, he delivers the ball with a side-arm action learnt from playing softball cricket during his childhood.</p>
<p>‘Slinga Malinga’ as he is fondly called is perhaps the best death bowler in current cricket. He is the only bowler to take three hat-tricks in ODI cricket. The Lankans failed to perform to expectations during the recent home series against Pakistan, but Malinga held his own.</p>
<p>He is a great exponent of the slower ball and much of the Lankan hopes rest on his shoulders going forward. His 291 wickets at an average of just below 28 are a proof of his bowling prowess in the ODIs.</p>
<h4><strong>4. Australia &#8211; Mitchell Starc</strong></h4>

<p>When you have Mitchell Johnson in the side and still the focus is on another quick, then you know he has some quality. Starc, arrived on the scene in tremendous fashion during the 2015 World Cup finishing as the highest wicket taker and the Man of the tournament award.</p>
<p>Serious pace, great accuracy, and hostile unrelenting bowling, characterize Starc’s talent. he generates plenty of pace and bounce and also possesses the ability to bring the ball back into the right-hander.</p>
<p>In his first 17 one-day internationals, he managed three five-wicket hauls, including those in successive matches against West Indies in Perth. He already has 90 wickets in ODIs at a staggering average of 19.</p>
<h4><strong>5. South Africa &#8211; Morne Morkel</strong></h4>

<p>Many might argue with Dale Steyn not being picked here. But Steyn has been largely off color in the recent ODI games and there is none better example than the 2015 World Cup semis.</p>
<p>A tearaway quick, he van clock speeds of over 145 on a consistent basis. The fact that he burst onto the scene when the likes of Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini were past their prime helped him to establish his position in the team.</p>
<p>And he is now an integral member of the South African ODI outfit. Morkel has picked up 180 wickets in the 106 games he has been part of. His performances on unresponsive tracks have particularly impressed the cricket, experts.</p>
<h4><strong>6. New Zealand &#8211; Trent Boult</strong></h4>

<p>The left-armer from New Zealand is the dream prospect for any skipper. With prodigious swing and a lovely action, Boult gives the best of batsmen a run for their money.</p>
<p>Sir Richard Hadlee rates him along with Southee as the best new ball pair in World Cricket. He was in lethal form in the 2015 ODI World Cup and picked up 22 wickets. The 25-year-old already has some of the world&#8217;s best batsmen’s wickets to his name and is set to have a big future for the Blackcaps.</p>

<p>Bangladesh finally has a fantastic pace battery at their disposal with the oncoming of Mustafizur Rahman. His skills were aptly on display when India toured Bangladesh in May and he took a fifer on debut.</p>
<p>He troubled almost each Indian batsman, with his masterly use of the slower delivery and fine use of the angled delivery. For most of the time, he looked like a quickish left arm spinner. he became the second bowler in ODI history after Zimbabwe&#8217;s Brian Vitori to pick up two five-wicket hauls in his first two matches.</p>
<p>Against South Africa,he took 5 wickets in the 3 ODI to help Bangladesh to a series win against the Proteas Despite the presence of Rubel Hossain and Mortaza he is turning out to be the leader of the Bangladesh pace attack.</p>
<h4><strong>8. West Indies – Jason Holder</strong></h4>

<p>The choice of Holder is largely reflective of the lack of quality seamers in the West indies ranks. Kemar Roach has been injury prone and Jerome Taylor has just made a return. A promising pace bowler, Jason Holder&#8217;s long-term potential was recognized when he was appointed West Indies&#8217; ODI captain during their 2014-15 tour of South Africa.</p>
<p>He had played only 21 ODIs at that point. But the big moment came when Holder was given the Caribbean reigns for the 2015 World cup. His best performance of 4-13 against Pakistan is the testimony to his immense caliber.</p>
