South African leg spinner Imran Tahir is an integral part of the Worl XI that will take on Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore today. The day marks the return of international cricket to the country of Pakistan since the horror that took place surrounding the Sri Lankan team in 2009. However, touring Pakistan was not at all a difficult decision for Imran Tahir who has his roots in Pakistan itself.

The dramatic leg spinner is believed to visit Pakistan every year as it is his country of birth. Lahore, the city where Tahir still has his old house, is set to host all the 3 T20 matches between the visiting World XI and Pakistan. Speaking about the same Tahir expressed his desire to see the country host international matches again.

What Tahir had to say:

“I told (teammates) very positive things because I have been coming here to meet my family every year,” he said on Monday. “I answered their questions and they have come, so thanks to them that they believed me.” said the Protea.

“We have come here with a positive mind and will go positively.” he added.

Tahir spent his childhood in Lahore and the lad had his eyes set on the Pakistan national team. He moved a step closer when he was selected from the Pakistan under-19 and ‘A’ teams. But robust competition for places in the Pakistan team saw Tahir move to South Africa in the year of 2006. Tahir eventually went on to make his South Africa national team debut in the 2011 World Cup and it turned out to be a fairytale for the bowler. He ended the campaign as the team’s second highest wicket taker.

“I am very proud and very happy where I am in my career,” Tahir said. “When I was told that these three matches could happen, probably I was the first one who said that I would love to go,” he concluded.
