Australian big-hitter Travis Head has been named the captain of the Adelaide Strikers ahead of the much anticipated 2017-18 Big Bash League. Head will replace Brad Hodge as the skipper, whose contract wasn’t extended after last year’s poor show. Head is also leading South Australia in the other two formats, and he has been convinced by former pacer Jason Gillespie and Tim Nielsen to take up the lead in all three formats.
The 23-year-old will become Strikers’ youngest captain in the history of the BBL. Head has been prolific for Australia in the limited overs formats. So far, Head has played 26 matches, scoring 614 runs and has a historic hundred to his name.
“It’s a privilege to be named captain,” Head said. “We’ve got such an exciting squad this season and a good mix of youth and experience. We’ve got amazing fans, an incredible home ground at Adelaide Oval and I know the guys are really hungry to have success.
Can’t wait to get started: Head
The new skipper sounded excited and he feels a good mix of experience and youth will help his side. “There’s good continuity in the team with a few players who have stuck with us for several years plus a few big recruits like Colin Ingram, Rashid Khan and Peter Siddle. We can’t wait to get started.” he said.
“I am feeling good, fresh. The back end of the season in the last couple of years I have been tired but there’s ways of getting around that. It is something I have worked on. I love playing in Adelaide and in front of the home fans.” Head added.
