Australian batter Travis Head has said that he is unlikely to be a part of Australia playing XI against Sri Lanka in an ODI series slated to start in June. The Men in Yellow will take on home-side Sri Lanka in a five-match ODI series slated to start on June 14 after wrapping up three T20Is.

It must be noted that the talented left-handed batter Head has been added to both the ODI squad and Australia A team that will be playing several one-day and first-class games in Sri Lanka. Head hopes that he gets regular opportunities to represent the national team and make a case for himself.

Warner and Finch are back at the top order, so it will be tough for me: Travis Head

“It means I probably won’t start (in the ODI series). “I’m realistic in that Davey (Warner) and Finchy are back together at the top of the order, and then you’ve got a middle-order that’s so set in that side it’s a hard one to get into,” Head was quoted by cricket.com.au.

“I think the plan is to see the lay of the land for the first couple of ODIs and, if the opportunity isn’t quite there and a spot doesn’t open up, then there’s a chance for me to play in the second Australia A (four-day) game and turn my focus to the Test series,” he added.

The left-handed batter expressed his frustration and deemed himself ‘unfortunate’ even after performing well recently against Pakistan and in the domestic circuit as well. Head has played a total of 45 ODIs and has scored 1463 runs in the 50-over format.

“I’m probably the unfortunate one at the moment who’s just out of that ODI starting XI, but it’s great to be back in the squad and I hope I’ve been able to force the selectors’ hand a bit over the last 18 months or so with domestic form and then in Pakistan,” Head added.
