India defeated New Zealand by five wickets and two balls to spare to pocket first of the three-match T20I series on Wednesday (November 17). Suryakumar Yadav was the star for the home team as he scored 62 runs off just 40 deliveries with six fours and three sixes. However, he also had his share of luck on the night with Trent Boult dropping him earlier in the innings.
It wasn’t a night to remember for Boult as apart from a drop, he was also taken apart for 21 runs in a single over by Rohit Sharma. Having said that, the left-arm seamer still ended up picking two wickets including that of Surya which led to the game going down the wire to the last over.
Coming back to the dropped catch, Suryakumar Yadav hilariously thanked Boult for the same while speaking in the post-match presentation. He also said that it was a perfect gift for his wife who was celebrating her birthday. “I would have loved to finish the game but that’s how you learn and move forward. About Trent, It’s my wife’s birthday also and it’s a perfect gift from him,” Surya said.
I try and put a lot of pressure on myself in the nets: Surya
It has been a steady rise at the international level for Suryakumar Yadav as he hit his third half-century in T20Is on Wednesday. Giving a sneak-peek into his preparations, the 31-year-old stated he puts himself under pressure situations in the nets while batting and tries to replicate the same during the match.
“I have not been doing anything different, just being myself whatever I have doing since the last 3-4 years. I bat the same way in the nets and replicate the same in the middle. I try and put a lot of pressure on myself in the nets, for example if I get out I just try to come out of the nets and try and think what better I could have done and it really helps when I play in the middle,” Surya, who batted at number three in the first T20I, added.
