Trichy Warriors get Jonty Rhodes boost in the TNPL

Former South African international Jonty Rhodes has been closely associated with India since he made his Test debut in the year of 1992. As the fielding coach of Indian Premier League side Mumbai Indians, Jonty Rhodes visits India regularly in the month of April during the tournament. Jonty Rhodes gave us another example of his immense love for the country when he named his daughter ‘India’. 2017 has been a year to remember for the extraordinary fielder as Mumbai Indians lifted the IPL trophy in its iconic 10^th edition. To pile upon the happiness, his wife Melanie gave birth to their second child also in the year.

Rhodes strengthened his relationship with India once again by agreeing to mentor Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) side Ruby Trichy Warriors. According to Rhodes, the 48 year old is super excited to be a part of the initiative. Rhodes also mentioned that this is a golden opportunity for him to explore cricket in India and get an idea of how Indian cricket comes up with these blazing talents.

“I’m always flabbergast about coming to India, whether it’s on the streets or international venues or some other district.” said Rhodes.

I’m looking forward to experiencing this incredible machinery-animal that is cricket in India. There are so many aspects of the game that we international players, explayers, IPL coaching staff don’t get to see. We keep scratching our heads and wonder how India keeps unearthing these talents.” added the veteran.

Jonty Rhodes hailed the Indian cricket board for conducting a plethora of domestic tournaments every year. Rhodes mentioned that this helps every player to get a chance to prove themselves even if one does not make it to the cash-rich Indian Premier League.

“Post IPL, leagues like TNPL or playing at state level is another platform. They make the players play for A side.” said Rhodes.

“If a player misses out on IPL, it’s not the end of life. India keeps conducting tournament after tournament, which is why when a player misses out on IPL, this takes the pressure off him.” added the South African.
