Indian team skipper and modern-day great Virat Kohli is arguably one of the best batsmen across all three formats. However, Kohli isn’t having the best of the times on the field as the batsman is struggling with his form and has failed to hit a century for more than a year. Though Team India has been winning the matches both at home and overseas under the leadership of Kohli and the batting great has been producing some decent knocks time and again, he has failed to weave the magic with willow he is renowned for.
The ongoing first T20 International of the five-match series against England at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium was again a testament to the Indian skipper’s poor form as he went back to the pavilion after scoring a five-ball duck leaving Team India hanging in the middle. The zero runs scored by Kohli invited a lot of criticism for Virat Kohli as people slammed him for not contributing to the scoreboard and living up to the expectations.
The game between India and England had begun with Eoin Morgan winning the toss and inviting the hosts to put up a total on the board first. Batting first, India had a disastrous start to their campaign as they lost their opening KL Rahul in the second over itself. Rahul went back to the pavilion after scoring just 1 run off 4 balls and losing his wicket to seamer Jofra Archer.
Virat Kohli gets out on the delivery by Adil Rashid
Adding to the misery, the Indian skipper also lost his wicket in the third over as the ploy of handing the ball to spinner Adil Rashid worked for the visiting spinner, Eoin Morgan. The third ball of the third over saw Virat making the room off Rashid to go over mid-off but the ball landed straight in the hands of Chris Jordan and Virat scored a five-ball duck.
This was followed by a collapse of the Indian batting line-up as they lost their seven wickets in 20 overs and scored just 124 runs. Jofra Archer emerged as the pick of the bowler for visitors with three wickets.
