Defending champions Chennai Super Kings managed to come out on top against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians during a group stage encounter of IPL 2022 played on April 21 (Thursday). The former CSK skipper MS Dhoni was at his absolute best as he scored an excellent 28* off 13 balls and won the match for his side.

Meanwhile, after the match, CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja and MI’s star batter Suryakumar Yadav were involved in a candid conversation in which both players shared a light chat having met after a long time. To note, Surya was playing on 32 and was looking good before he played a shot that went right into the throat of Mukesh Choudhary stationed at the long leg on the bowling of Kiwi spinner Mitchell Santner.

Brother, please leave one corner of the ground: Jadeja to Suryakumar

In a 17-second video uploaded from MI’s Twitter handle, Jadeja can hear saying, “Brother please leave one corner of the ground for us to defend. Sometimes here. Sometimes there.” To which Suryakumar replied, “You had perfectly placed one fielder for me.” Jadeja then replied, “Yeah, I’d kept it right here because I knew you’d hit one here.”

Coming to the match, CSK skipper Jadeja won the toss and opted to bowl first. His decision was proven right as pacer Mukesh Choudhary scalped captain Rohit Sharma and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan in the very first over. Despite Suryakumar’s 21-ball 32, MI’s scoring rate continued to fall before some decent batting from Tilak Varma and Hrithik Shokeen took the five-time champions to 155/7 from their 20 overs.

In reply, the Mumbai bowlers applied pressure on the Chennai batters and ensured that the defending champions face the heat. CSK were 106/6 in the 16th over and it was looking all over for the defending champions. However, MS Dhoni took the matters into his own hands and smashed Jaydev Unadkat in the last over to steal the victory. CSK will play their next match against Punjab Kings on April 25 (Monday).
