Rishabh Pant might be an excellent talent and the one who could serve India for a long time. He is just 21 years old at the moment and there seems to be a bright future ahead. But the kind of temperament that he is showing will take him nowhere and he was at fault in the 2nd ODI between Windies and India as well. Pant failed to curb his aggressive instinct and thus received a lot of fire from the fans.
India opted to bat first at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. However, they were struck with a massive blow as Shikhar Dhawan fell right in the first over after scoring two runs. Then, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma tried to hang in and build a partnership with the former playing the aggressor. However, the vice-captain never seemed to have got going and didn’t get the strike too often. He played 33 balls and scored 18 before the frustration showed up.
On the 34th ball that he faced, Rohit ended up slicing a delivery while attempting to play a big shot and got out. Then, Rishabh Pant walked in at the much-debated number four position ahead of Shreyas Iyer. With over 30 overs left in the game, the youngster was expected to be patient and get a big score.
Rishabh Pant threw his wicket away attempting to play an ugly shot
Pant tried to be patient. He faced 35 balls and scored 20 runs and even hit a couple of boundaries. But for a player of his sort, playing those many dot balls ended up irking him. His natural instinct of going for the big shot got the better of him. Rishabh Pant tried to pull a length ball from Carlos Brathwaite. However, there was absolutely no movement of his feet and he wanted to hit the ball out of the park with his sheer power.
In the process, he was beaten and his off-stump was rattled. Earlier, in the T20I series as well, he got out in the first two games while attempting to play rash shots. While he seemed to have changed his approach in the third T20I, he was back to normal in this game. Thus, the fans bashed him left and right on social media for being so reckless and not contributing to the team’s cause.
Here is how the fans reacted to the rash shot:
Shreyas Iyer has surpassed Rishabh Pant I’m afraid
