The Indian team, of late, has enjoyed massive success. The Men in Blue dominated the home season, beating every formidable opponent across all the formats. On Wednesday, India equalled the record for most consecutive Test series wins after playing out a draw against Sri Lanka at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla and thus taking the three-match series 1-0.
However, star batsman Ajinkya Rahane’s form remains a pressing issue for India ahead of the all-important tour of South Africa. He has been struggling to put runs on the scoresheet which was visible in the recently concluded Test series against Sri Lanka. Rahane could only manage a top score of 10 in five outings. A lynchpin in the batting lineup, the right-hander has been one of the most consistent performers for India in Tests.
Thus, in order to give him more time in the middle, the Indian management promoted him to number three in the batting order in the second innings against the Lankans in Delhi. Now the decision has become a catalyst for a heated Twitter exchange between two former India cricketers – Vinod Kambli and Aakash Chopra.
Chopra, who is on the commentary team for the ongoing series tweeted, “Good on India to send Rahane at 3….must get some runs before boarding the flight to SA. #IndvSL,”
To this Kambli got back at him saying, “MR CHOPRA,how will he get runs? Can you suggest ??????”.

Rahane was backed by the team’s batting coach Sanjay Bangar during the recently concluded Sri Lanka series. Bangar also applauded Rahane for his outstanding efforts in difficult conditions overseas.
He said, “I think that would be hurting him definitely but he is a quality player. And going forward, even his overseas record has been phenomenal. Yeah, he would be disappointed. He is a quality player and has the ability to bounce back quickly.”
