Twitter bends the knee to King Kohli after his masterclass hundred at Perth
Kohli would be looking to make it a big hundred and bat Australia out of the game.
Things have gone back to normalcy. After a comparatively lean patch in Adelaide (yes, one has to call it a lean patch for a player like him), Virat Kohli is back to his normal routine of scoring hundreds. The Indian captain feasted on a new ball and got to the milestone with a glorious straight drive off Mitchell Starc. This is his 25th Test century and he marches along in Perth to slowly put his team in a strong position.
This surely has to be one of his, if not the best knocks ever. Kohli normally likes to dominate the proceedings which he did early on after coming in to bat at 8/2 in the sixth over of the innings. But then what did he do differently? Why is everyone rating this innings as his best?
Virat Kohli raced to 19 off 12 balls but then Pat Cummins, his nemesis, came into the attack. The fast bowler had dismissed him twice in three innings so far and hadn’t scored many runs against him. Cummins’ extra pace tends to trouble the World’s number 1 batsman and once again it was evident. Kohli kept on leaving the balls outside the off-stump and defended profusely.
It took 17 balls for him to score off Cummins but then he was determined to take his team through once again. The bowlers were breathing fire from the other end as well and in the process, Kohli survived a scare of getting out against Lyon as well.
Unfazed Kohli lets the bat do the talking
He got exceptional support from Ajinkya Rahane who attacked from the word go and the 30-year-old didn’t have to do anything out of character. Kohli kept on playing the balls on merit and played out the day without much fuss in the end. The third day was all about him batting through even as Rahane was dismissed in the first over itself. Surely, that would’ve put the added pressure on Virat Kohli.
But he is not from this planet. He doesn’t know what pressure is. He took Hanuma Vihari by his side and trudged along to notch up a masterclass century. Interestingly, this time the celebration wasn’t over the moon. He just pointed towards his bat suggesting that he lets his bat do all the talking.
The milestone also came off the opponent’s best bowler Starc and now the captain is opening up his hands and has also smacked a maximum to Josh Hazlewood dictating the terms. India would really hope that he carries along and get his team a significant lead on the pitch which will only deteriorate from here.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the masterclass:
