Virat Kohli was more in the focus when the Test series began only due to the fact that he averaged 13 in 2014 across five Tests in England. He was troubled by James Anderson and had exposed his weakness. But four years down the line, the champion batsman returned to the same country as the captain of the team and after Edgbaston heroics, has slammed his second ton of the series at Trent Bridge.
He missed out in the first innings agonisingly by just three runs as Kohli was dismissed by Adil Rashid when things were looking grim for England. But come the second innings, he looked determined and with India’s position strong in the game, had no pressure at all. Kohli thrives when it matters and it was all about batting the opposition out of the game on the third day of the Test.
Kohli in no hurry
India began the day 292 runs ahead as the duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli made no fuss about the scoring rate and played out a session. The latter was also calm and composed during his knock and rightfully punished the bad deliveries. But both of them concentrated more on tiring out the opposition. The runs automatically came thereafter. The century partnership was broken but Kohli continued in grand style.
Even Adil Rashid, his nemesis on this tour tried to induce a false drive from him, but in vain. The Indian captain was determined this time and was extremely lucky to be dropped by Keaton Jennings when he was on 93. Anderson had finally made him edge one in the post-tea session but the luck was on his side. Last 7 runs though were streaky as the century run also came off the edge which went past the third slip.
Kohli notched up his 23rd ton in the longest format and soaked in all the applause from the crowd and also from his wife Anushka Sharma. Twitterati was thrilled to see the World’s best batsman dictate terms in England and praised him.

No 23 for Kohli. Hard fought, well crafted, master of all formats. Loved his application. 2014 is buried.

Hunger & Discipline. Thatโs what separates him from the rest. Kohliโs indeed the best batsman on the planet across three formats… #23 #ModernMaster

The exceptional rate of conversion continues. Makes a statement like a boss. Kohli scored 692 in the 4 tests in Australia in 2014. And looks like he will score in excess of that in the 5 tests here. What a turnaround after the difficult 2014 here. Stuff of champions.

18 50s and 23 hundreds in his career. Superb statistic to illustrate the hunger the man has. Great conversion rate where Root loses out. Absolutely amazing batsman this man is. Now as captain @imVkohli make it 1-2.
