Former Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli’s friendship has been one of the most talked about camaraderie in world cricket. Their affinity for each other first came to the fore when the duo stitched together a partnership of 664 runs, representing the Shardashram Vidya Mandir against St. Xavier’s High School in Harris Shield back on February 24, 1988.
It also turned out to be the highest stand ever in any class of cricket in the tournament organised by Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA). At that stage, Sachin was two months short of 15 years while Kambli was 16. Both donned the national colours. However, they ended up with contrasting careers in international cricket. Kambli started his career on an impressive note, but gradually faded away.
Kambli and Sachin’s comradeship
On the contrary, Sachin had to strain for success in the early phase of his career, but he came into his own and turned out to be a tormenting factor for the bowlers across all the formats. He is currently the leading run-scorer in Tests and ODIs with as many as 100 centuries for the national team. Meanwhile, rifts between the friends were also reported to have sparked.
Earlier in 2009, Kambli mentioned that Sachin didn’t stand by him during the tumultuous phase of his career. Nevertheless, their friendship seemed to have restored when Kambli was seen touching Sachin’s feet during the inaugural edition of the Mumbai T20 league. The Friendship Day is celebrated on August 5 every year and Kambli didn’t miss out on the chance of expressing his love for Sachin Tendulkar.
Kambli took to Twitter and wrote, “On field you are the greatest that the game could produce, off the field, you are Jay and me, Veeru… On this friendship day all I want to say is.. @sachin_rt “Ye dosti hum nahi todenge.. Todenge dam magar tera saath na chodenge.. #HappyFriendshipDay #FriendshipDay2018”
Here is Kambli’s heartfelt tweet

In the meantime, Twitter also opined on their friendship. While some hailed the relationship, some also slammed Kambli for blaming Sachin earlier.
Here is how Twitter reacted

Adored u for the high backlift and lefty allegance, more than Sachin but you bottled it with your antics and needless drifting Vinod..what a waste of talent
