Twitter is ecstatic after Joe Root accomplished his 14th Test century
Root took a single off Ravindra Jadeja and accomplished his ton.
Albeit England have already won their five-match Test series against India, their batters haven’t quite been at their very best by any stretch of the imagination. Even skipper Joe Root has strained to find his feet in the matches. He scored 80 runs in the first innings of the opening Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham but somehow lost his way in the encounters thereafter.
He couldn’t play well at Lord’s, Trent Bridge and The Ageas Bowl and to his despair, he got out for a three-ball duck in the first innings of the fifth and final Test at Kennington Oval in London. Ishant Sharma accounted for his wicket. Nevertheless, he made an incredible comeback and scored his 14th Test century to guide the Three Lions to a commanding position.
Root scores his 14th ton
He came to bat after Ravindra Jadeja nipped out left-handed batsman Moeen Ali with a peach of a delivery. Though the Brits had a useful lead of 102 by then, the English team needed someone to put his hand up and shepherd them to a substantial lead. He had Alastair Cook at the other end and he hardly panicked and came out with a positive intent.
The Yorkshire-born cricketer played some glorious strokes and took the bowlers by the scruff of their necks. He remained not out till the close of play on the third day. He resumed on the fourth day and kept milking the bowling with sheer ease. He had the privilege of seeing Cook score a 210-ball century in his final hurray at the international level.
After 10 overs, Root took a single off Ravindra Jadeja and accomplished his ton. In the meantime, Twitter hailed Root for his impressive knock, which not only has put England on the driver’s seat but also has dented India’s hopes of getting a foothold back into the encounter.
