The fourth day of England India Tests started with England openers starting up their show at Trent Bridge. As the Indian pacers remained extremely successful in the first innings of the game, the same couldn’t be the case in the 2nd innings. Home skipper Joe Root dominated the day as he brought a classy century on the table giving England a much-needed push.

Joe Root played all the classy shots from his arsenal to give England an upper hand as he tackled all the kinds of deliveries successfully. The openers couldn’t add much to the English scoreboard as Rory Burn and Dom Sibley put in 18 and 28 runs respectively. Jonny Bairstow and Dan Lawrence pitched in with the fewer amount of runs and ticked their scoreboard.

Talking about Indian bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur have picked up two wickets each so far (at the time of writing this article.) It has to be noted that when India batted in the first innings, they gathered a fine lead of 95 runs as lower order and KL Rahul put in extraordinary efforts to push the visiting side.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Joe Root’s century in the first Test

When India wrapped up England on 183 runs in the first innings, Indian pacers were upright in their job and Jasprit Bumrah came in fine line after his dismal show of WTC Final. Root survived several hiccups too while reaching his stunning century wherein at 97 runs, he was stunned by Mohammed Siraj’s delivery. It has to be noted that Shardul Thakur picked Root’s wicket in the first innings.

“If you see he (Root) had played a few balls and he was playing really well and looked poised for a big score. At that period, getting him out was crucial for us and we got him. Really happy on getting Root’s wicket. One of the top batters in the world, whether you get him in the 60s or 90s it’s always a good wicket to have,” said Thakur after picking England skipper’s wicket in the first innings of the game.
