Ravichandran Ashwin has been an instrumental performer for India in international cricket. He has wielded his magic with the ball in hand and has churned out wickets at regular intervals. The Tamil Nadu-cricketer has also been a pivotal cricketer in the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL), first for the Chennai Super Kings and then for the Rising Pune Supergiants.
Quite rightly, he was among the marquee players in the ongoing auctions in Bangalore. He had a base price of 2 crores to start with. Chennai Super Kings and the Kings XI Punjab went hell for leather for the off-spinning all-rounder and entered into the bidding war. Kings XI Punjab went for Shikhar Dhawan, which showed their desperation to employ a skipper for their team.
They were for Shikhar Dhawan, but to their dismay, the Sunrisers Hyderabad bagged the Indian left-handed batsman back via the Right to Match (RTM) card. Afterwards, they made their mind to grab Ashwin at any cost. To their delight, the CSK refrained from bidding further on the Indian cricketer and was sold for 7.6 crores to the Kings XI Punjab.
New team new journey
Kings XI Punjab has been one of the most talented sides on paper ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League. However, they have underperformed on many occasions and crashed out of the tournament. They have languished at the bottom of the table and flattered to deceive. The team is yet to win the prestigious tournament and will look to turn their fortunes around.
Ravichandran Ashwin is a calm-headed cricketer who has the skills to lead a T20 side. Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab will hope for Ashwin to fire all guns blazing for them in the upcoming edition of the IPL. Quite rightly, Twitter heaped praises on Ravichandran Ashwin following his adoption by his new IPL franchise. Here are some of the Tweets.
Ashwin to Punjab is good only for CSK fans.
He is a smart boy and we can finally find out what exactly "Coconut mein lassi milake" means! Phew!

KKR yet to show interest in Indian players. Still need a captain. KXIP May have got theirs in Ashwin. Surprised with CSK to use RTM for Faf. SRH must be happy to not retain Dhawan. Saved them money. #IPLAuction

CSK went out at the right price for Ashwin. Dangerous signs. A smart CSK is dangerous for all the remaining teams in the competition.
