Twitter erupts as the Ice cricket gets off to a flying start
Here's how Twitter reacted to this extravagant display from Owais Shah and the Royals.
The St. Moritz Ice Cricket hosted in Switzerland is an initiative to expand the horizons of the gentleman’s game. Some of the biggest names from the previous generation came together to commemorate the occasion and the tournament is off to a flying start, with Owais Shah playing a sensational knock to help the Royals register a big win.
Batting first, the Palace Diamonds led by Virender Sehwag got off to a sensational start. The skipper led from the front and took all the fans back in time with a flabbergasting rendition of masterful strokeplay. He managed to register a 31-ball 62, which included 4 fours and 5 big sixes. It was his arch-nemesis Shoaib Akhtar who eventually brought an end to his innings.
Towards the end, former Aussie batsman Andrew Symonds played a vintage knock as well, helping his side finish off on a positive note. Mohammad Kaif and Joginder Sharma chipped in with a couple of cameos as well, which helped them register 164 runs in their 20 overs. Abdul Razzaq registered exceptional figures of 4/18 whilst Akhtar returned with a brace.
Shah kills the game in style
The second innings of the game was all about a certain Owais Shah, who has remained out of the limelight in recent times. The English batsman bludgeoned a 34-ball 74, which included 5 fours and seven massive sixes. The best part of the innings was the 15th over bowled by Lasith Malinga, where Shah smashed three consecutive sixes and entertained everyone present.
South African legends Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis played a couple of crucial knocks as well, which helped them make a mockery of the run chase. Towards the end, Grant Elliot joined the part and the target was condensed in just 15.2 overs. The Royals’ scoring rate was well above 10.5 an over, which sums up how destructive their approach was.
The Diamonds had some big names in their bowling lineup like Zaheer Khan, Ajit Agarkar and the one and only Lasith Malinga. But the Royals showed no respect to their legendary status and exhibited some high-quality cricket.
