Team India has been in a dominating form in the recent times. This is evident from their rise to the top spot in the ICC Test rankings. Certainly, this needed a lot of hard work from the players. Two of their star players – Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja – were recently awarded for their contributions to the team. Both Pujara and Jadeja have escalated to the second spot in the ICC batsmen and the ICC bowlers’ rankings in Test cricket respectively.
Speaking about Cheteshwar Pujara, the Saurashtra lad has been scoring tons at will in the longest format of the game. He has been the most consistent batsman for the Indian team in the ongoing season, and was a top performer in the grand home season on 2016-17. Pujara’s most recent exploit was against Sri Lanka at Nagpur where he hit a fine ton.
Cheteshwar Pujara sits comefortably at the second spot in the rankings with 888 points to his name. The list is topped by Australian captain Steve Smith, who has 941 points to his name. Pujara is closely followed by Joe Root (881 points) and Kane Williamson (880 points) in the list. Steve Smith has been in supreme form. He singlehandedly bailed out Australia from the trouble in the first Ashes Test. Commenting on Ravindra Jadeja’s rise, the left arm spinner boasts of 880 points to his name in the rankings.
English bowler James Anderson tops the list with 891 points. Among the other Indians in the frame, skipper Virat Kohli remains at the number 5 spot in the Test rankings for batsmen. KL Rahul manages to stay in the top 10 as well with number 9 position. Among the bowlers, Ravichandran Ashwin has slipped to number 4 position. He will have his chance to escalate up the rankings when India plays the third Test against Sri Lanka.
The herculean rise of the Indian cricketers in the rankings – Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja in particular – saw the social media go for a tizzy. The fans absolutely loved the rise of these two players and posted quite a few updates. The fans showed respect for the Australian captain Steve Smith as well. Smith’s sublime form in Test cricket remains unmatched by any other player.

Steve Smith has taken test cricket to another level, comparing him with any other cricketer of this generation is a sin https://t.co/NpnGeiELOq

If Smith (941) is able to produce another strong performance in the day/night Test at the Adelaide Oval, then he has a solid chance of leapfrogging Hutton (945), Hobbs (942), Ponting (942) and May (941) into second place behind Bradman (961). #Ashes pic.twitter.com/8MvG5DfuEQ
