Team Pakistan has an elite tradition of producing world class premier fast bowlers. The baton seems to have passed on to Hasan Ali who has been a revelation for the national side in the last twelve months. The pace bowler recently escalated to the top most position in the ICC ODI Bowlers’ rankings. Hasan Ali has bagged a total of 12 wickets in the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka thus far.

The rankings were updated after the conclusion of the third ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and the second ODI between South Africa and Bangladesh. The updates saw changes at the helm in both the batsmen’s and the bowlers’ rankings. While South Africa’s AB de Villiers pipped Virat Kohli to take the top spot in batsmen rankings after a whirlwind knock of 176, Hasan Ali’s five-for earned him the top honors in the bowlers’ rankings.

In the third ODI against Sri Lanka, Hasan Ali had bagged 5/34 – his third five-for in the short international career that he has had thus far. Also, in the series, he managed to be the fastest to fifty wickets in the ODIs by a Pakistani bowler. Clearly, Hasan looks to be a bright prospect for the future. He became the fifth bowler to move to the top of the ODI bowlers’ rankings this year after Trent Boult, Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada, and Josh Hazlewood.

Babar moves to number 4

Meanwhile, young Pakistani batsman Babar Azam has managed to escalate to the fourth position in the batsmen’s rankings. His most recent ton in the second ODI against Sri Lanka marked his fifth consecutive ton in the UAE. He is the fastest to score 7 ODI centuries in terms of ODI innings needed – he achieved the feat in just 33 innings.

The top three honors in batsmen rankings are bagged by AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, and David Warner. Twitter went absolutely berserk seeing two young Pakistani stars making giant strides.
