Twitter erupts after witnessing Kuldeep Yadav claiming a hattrick
Kuldeep Yadav picks up a hattrick for India in ODIs after 26 years.
India’s Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav lit up the Eden Gardens with a magnificent hattrick after claiming the wickets of Matthew Wade, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins of successive balls. He is now only the third Indian bowler to claim a hat-trick in ODIs after Kapil Dev and Chetan Sharma.
Interestingly, this is the second hattrick the Eden Gardens as Kapil Dev also claimed it in the same venue back in 1991. Kapil Dev’s hattrick was also the last time an Indian picked achieved the feat in One Day Internationals.
Australians were cruising at one point of time during their chase with Steve Smith and Travis Head at the crease and score at 85 for the loss of a couple of wickets. Earlier, Bhuvneshwar Kumar tormented the Australians with his magnificent spell, in which he claimed the wickets of openers David Warner and Hilton Cartwright and went for only 9 runs in the six overs he bowled,
He could have easily had three wickets as Rohit Sharma dropped Travis Head at slips very early on in his innings. However, the turning point of the game came after the dismissal of Head who spooned a dolly to Manish Pandey off a full stop from Chahal.
Following this, Australians continued to give wickets before the partnership between Smith and Stoinis stabilized the innings. Kuldeep Yadav had an uneventful seven overs of the spell, prior to the over which caused the carnage. Maxwell adopted an aggressive approach on Yadav and hammered him for two consecutive sixes off sweep shots earlier
He was handed the ball in the 33rd over of the innings. In the second ball of the over, Matthew Wade played on to his stumps while trying to attack a wide delivery. The next ball, Ashton Agar, played the wrong line of a well flighted full ball and was adjudged leg before wicket.
Pat Cummins tried to fend the hat-trick ball and but misread the googly, which caught the edge of the bat, thereby, completing his hattrick in his adopted home ground in IPL.
