Twitter goes ballistic as Andrew Tye picks up the second hat-trick of the day
Although it was not the quick's first career hat-trick, it would down as one of the best spells by the death over specialist bowler Andrew Tye.
14th April 2017 will go down in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history as one of the best days for the bowlers. It was the first time in the IPL history that two bowlers have taken hat-tricks on the same day. The first match of the day between the Mumbai Indians and the host Royal Challengers Bangalore witnessed the first hat-trick of the day.
It was none other than the West Indian T20 specialist Samuel Badree, who picked three crucial wickets in the third over of the innings when he picked Parthiv Patel, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma off successive deliveries to pick his first hat trick in the league. It was also the first time that a spinner has taken a hattrick in the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
However, the other bowlers could not backup the West Indian failing to perform well with the ball to allow a comeback win for the Mumbai Indians despite restricting the visitors to 33/5.
Gujarat Lions and the Rising Pune Supergiant faced each other in the second match of the day at Rajkot, where the Australian bowler Andrew Tye made his debut. The Australian right-arm quick is widely appreciated within the domestic circuit in the country, where he has ended up picking most wickets in the Big Bash league. The 30-year-old made his IPL debut against the struggling Rising Pune Supergiant in a must-win encounter for the Lions. Tye picked up a wicket in his first over in the tournament with the scalp of the in-form batsman Rahul Tripathi.
Tye followed his first over brilliance with the wicket of the danger man Ben Stokes on the first ball of his second over. The bowler went from strength to strength inside his first two overs in the tournament. Tye’s last over of the match was probably the best in the history of the tournament.
The right-arm quick picked up a hat-trick in the last over with the wickets of Ankit Sharma, Shardul Thakur, and Manoj Tiwary. The Australian could have easily picked up another wicket if not for the drop catch by the Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. He also holds the record figures for any foreign bowler in league with figures of 5-17 in his quota of four overs.
Although it was not the quick’s first career hat-trick, it would go down as one of the best spells by the deadly death over bowler Andrew Tye. Here are some of the reactions from the world of Twitter.
